Boys Hoops: Player, Team and Coach of the Week (Jan. 25-30)

Here are the Wisconsin Sports Network weekly award winners in boys' basketball for the games played January 25 through January 30:

Player of the Week


Richie Murphy

Richie Murphy, 5-8, PG, Sr., Cameron
A four-year varsity performer, two-time first-team all-league selection and 1,000-point career scorer, Murphy took his game up a notch last week while helping Cameron to three wins under coach Troy LaVallie. In an 81-62 victory over Ladysmith, the cat-quick, aggressive and highly skilled point guard finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals. Last Friday, Murphy surpassed the 1,000-point mark with 30 points in a 65-54 win over Barron. He also had 10 rebounds and four assists in that contest. He also had 26 points in a 70-47 triumph over Bloomer on Saturday. Murphy is averaging 19.3 points and 7.8 assists for the Comets, who own a two-game lead in the loss column in the Heart O'North Conference standings and are ranked No. 6 among WIAA Division 3 schools in the latest WisSports.net Coaches Poll

Team of the Week

East Troy Trojans
East Troy improved to 13-4 overall and extended its winning streak to seven games last week with victories over Edgerton, Big Foot and Sun Prairie. Ranked among the top 10 teams in the WisSports.net Coaches Poll for WIAA Division 2 teams, East Troy stood at 6-4 following a 79-53 road loss at unbeaten Cuba City on December 28. After a two-week layoff due to COVID issues, the Trojans returned to the hardwoood with triumphs over Jefferson, Milwaukee Lutheran, Clinton and Monona Grove before their three wins last week. Coach Daryl Rayfield's squad is getting double-figure scoring from four players and is led by senior Ryan Nixon (6-2), who is averaging 22.3 ppg and had 32 in the win over Sun Prairie. Junior Chase Cummings (6-2) is averaging 19.7 ppg followed by juniors Colin Terpstra (11.9 ppg) and Dayne Lindow (10.2 ppg). East Troy returns to action Tuesday with a game against highly regarded St. John's Northwestern Academies out of Delafield.

Coach of the Week

Jason Sargent, Clear Lake
Clear Lake's Warriors are on the way to their fifth straight Lakeland Central Conference title thanks to victories last week over Prairie Farm, Clayton and Webster. Coach Jason Sargent's program has won 49 conference games in a row. This year's squad is 15-0 and is led by a pair of talented juniors in Riley Peterson (6-5) and Tyson Blanchard (6-4). Peterson is averaging 17.1 points and 7.6 rebounds while Blanchard is contributing 12.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists. Senior Alex St. John (6-0) also has played a big role in the Warriors' success and is averaging 8.6 ppg. Now in his 20th year as the head coach at Clear Lake, Sargent owns a 283-172 record at the school. Clear Lake returns to play this week with a game Tuesday against Barron.
