VNN Athlete of the Week: January 25-31

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of January 25 through 31. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Jan. 25-31

Kamy Peppler, Hortonville girls basketball: Hortonville picked up a pair of Fox Valley Association conference wins this past week behind the strong play of Peppler. First in a 73-34 win over Oshkosh West, she scored 14 points, hauled in eight rebounds and added five assists and three steals. The Polar Bears then downed Division 1, ninth-ranked Neenah 72-60. Peppler, a UW-Milwaukee commit scored a game high 26 points and added three assists and seven steals.

Oliva Gamoke, Onalaska girls basketball: Gamoke played exceptional this past week, fueling Onalaska to three victories. First in a tight 68-59 win over Rhinelander, she had 19 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Gamoke followed that up with 29 points, nine rebounds, and six steals in 69-29 win over Holmen. The Division 2 Sioux Falls commit rounded out the week with 20 points, five rebounds, and three steals in a 70-31 win over Stoughton.

Brody Hemauer, DeForest wrestling: Regional wrestling took place this past weekend, and Hemauer was looking to advance to his sectionals and eventually his third straight state appearance. In the first place match at 170 pounds, the junior beat Portage's Lowell Arnold 5-1 to advance. Hemauer is currently ranked second in the state at 170 pounds and finished fourth last season at the state tournament in 160 pound weight class.

Nacir Beamon, Martin Luther boys basketball: Martin Luther went into overtime twice this past week and both times came out victorious. First in a 72-68 win over Kenosha St. Joseph, Beamon finished with 14 points. Martin Luther then faced off with undefeated and Division 3 top-ranked Racine St. Catherines. Beamon, the second ranked player in the class of 2024, scored a game high 22 points and dished out four assists in the 65-59 overtime victory.

David Joplin, Brookfield Central boys basketball: Brookfield Central improved to 13-4 on the year with two wins last week. Joplin dominated on the hardwood, first recording 27 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in a 72-59 win over Marquette. The Texas commit followed that up with another double-double in a 76-61 win over Sussex Hamilton. Joplin finished with 29 points, 16 rebounds and another two blocks.
