Beaver Dam's Maty Wilke selected as state's top senior wing

Beaver Dam's Maty Wilke has been selected as the top senior wing as part of WSN Basketball Awards

Wilke is a skilled and versatile playmaker who can score at all three levels, possesses a high basketball IQ, has great court vision, and excels on the defensive side of the ball. 

Her senior year was cut short by a torn ACL in her, but her impact through the Golden Beavers' first seven games was nothing short of incredible. 

Wilke, a University of Wisconsin signee, was putting up big-time numbers prior to the injury, including 24.1 points per game for coach Tim Chase and the Golden Beavers which were averaging 87.1 points per game through their first eight games. 

The top-ranked player in the class of 2021 by WisSports.net recorded her first triple double against Baraboo on December 3, finishing the game with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists. 

Wilke finished her career with 1,299 points, 518 rebounds, 378 assists and 251 steals. She led them to an 86-6 record, 14-0 WIAA tournament record, and only loss against an in-state opponent was against Aquinas her junior year.

Beaver Dam (22-3) advanced to a Division 1 sectional semifinal without Wilke, but fell to Germantown which is playing at the state tournament. 

Finalists for the award were Wilke, Naomi Breunig of Sauk Prairie, Kiley Deaton of Wausau West, Phoebe Frentzel of Arrowhead, Desiree Kleiman of Mishicot, and Alexa Thomson of West De Pere. 

Past winners of the award include  Leilani Kapinus of Madison Memorial (2020), McKenna Warnock of Monona Grove (2019), Hailey Oskey of Seymour (2018), Estella Moschkau of Edgewood (2017), Abby Gerrits of Pewaukee (2016), Arike Ogunbowale (2015), Maya Jonas of Whitefish Bay (2014), Samantha Terry of Baraboo (2013), and Brittney Fair of Nicolet (2012).
