Notre Dame claims its fourth WIAA State Title, holding off Reedsburg in the Division 2 championship game

Notre Dame used big run midway through the second half to pull away from Reedsburg in the Division 2 state championship game. 

The Tritons went on a 14-1 run after the game was tied at 50 with 11:37 to play. The 13-point lead was the Tritons' largest of the game and they went on defeat Reedsburg, 68-56, to claim the program's fourth state title, and third in the last nine years

The exciting contest included six lead changes and was tied on five other occasions. The depth of the Tritons shined in the contest, with seven players scoring at least six points and getting 19 points off the bench compared to Reedsburg getting three points off the bench. 

Notre Dame also held an 18-5 advantage in second chance points.

Senior Georgia Gregoire (5-7) scored with a team-high 17 points on 5-for-11 shooting and making seven of nine from the free throw line. She also added five rebounds. 

Joining her in double figures were freshman Sydney Whitehouse (5-10) and senior Sammy Opichka (6-0), who finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Opichka, an NCAA Division I University of St. Thomas signee, added eight rebounds and three blocks. 

The Tritons also got key performances from senior Charley Apple (9 points, 3-for-4 from three), freshman Trista Fayta (8 points, 3 assists, 2 steals) and Gracie Grzesk (7 points, 6 rebounds), and junior Sarah Hardwick (6 points, 7 rebounds). 

Reedsburg was led by junior Mahra Wieman, who tied for the game-high with 17 points, and added six rebounds and three assists. 

Three others reached double figures for coach Mark Simon and the Beavers. Freshman Sydney Cheney finished with 14 points while juniors Trenna Cherney and Macie Wieman each tallied 11 points.

Notre Dame finishes the the year with a 26-game winning streak and a 28-1 record.

Coach Rohde, who won her 200th career game earlier in the day against Onalaska, has guided the Tritons to five state tournament appearances and three state titles in her 10 years as head coach. 

Reedsburg ends the year with a 20-2 record. The Beavers take home the silver ball in the program's first-ever trip to a state championship game. 

Coach Simon (243 career wins) has guided the Beavers to both of their state tournament appearance, the last was in 2012.
