VNN Athlete of the Week: March 8-14

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of March 8 through 14. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Mar. 8-14

Adie Tooley, Bay Port girls swimming: Bay Port girls dominated a dual meet against De Pere, winning 127-43. Tooley cleaned up, winning two individual events as well as being a part of two relay wins. She won the 200 individual medley in 2:14.28 and the 100 yard fly in 1:03.16. The 200 medley relay team won with a time of 1:53.60 and the 400 yard freestyle medley in 3:52.18.

Kenzie Zuehl, Verona/Mount Horeb girls swimming: Zuehl dominated early and often as Verona/Mount Horeb beat Beloit Memorial 132-38. She won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:05.15 and the 100 yard freestyle in :55.21. Zuehl was a part of the 200 yard freestyle and 400 yard freestyle relay winning teams as well, winning in times of 1:43.04 and 3:56.70 respectively.

Cooper Polczinski, Kimberly boys volleyball: Kimberly has started off 3-0 in this alternate spring season for boys volleyball. Last week, Polczinski helped his team to a pair of wins over Neenah and Middleton. First in the 3-0 sweep of Neenah, he had 14 kills, two aces and added a block. The 6'3" senior followed it up with 14 kills, three aces and two blocks in the 3-2 win over Middleton.

Lauren Buley, La Crosse Central girls volleyball: La Crosse Central took home a pair of victories this past Saturday and Buley, just a sophomore, was a big reason why. The Riverhawks downed Superior 3-1 as Buley had a team high 19 kills. She followed that up with another team high 22 kills in a 3-2 win over Eau Claire North.

Lilly Tapani, South Shore girls volleyball: South Shore has started the season off 5-0 and had a busy week last week, winning four matches, all in straight sets. Tapani was a key piece to the puzzle during that run. In the 3-0 sweep of Bayfield she had three kills and eight aces. She followed that up with five aces in the sweep of Chequamegon and added eight kills and an ace in the 3-0 sweep of Winter. Tapani finished the week with six kills and two aces in the final sweep of Lac Courte Oreilles.
