VNN Athlete of the Week: March 22-28

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of March 22 through 28. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: Mar. 22-28

Brenna Bruchert, Eau Claire Memorial girls volleyball: Eau Claire Memorial has gone 6-2 so far in this shortened alternate fall season. Bruchert has played exceptional, leading her team to three victories last week. In a 3-1 win over Sparta, she had 16 kills and three blocks. In matches against La Crosse Central and Logan, Bruchert amassed 27 kills, two blocks, and seven digs in the pair of wins.

Lucia Hyzer, Janesville Craig girls tennis: After a few postponements and pushbacks, the Janesville Craig tennis team finall got to hit the court this past week. Hyzer won a pair of matches as Craig participated in a triangular with Milton and Janesville Parker on Saturday. First, she downed Milton's Natalie Niemeyer 7-5, 6-3. Hyzer then beat Parker's Lucy Barnes 6-2, 6-2.

Grace Perret, Green Bay Preble girls volleyball: Preble is 6-2 on this alternate season and went 2-0 last week behind the strong play of the senior Perret. In a 3-0 sweep of Fox River Classic foe Notre Dame, she recorded 20 kills, 11 digs, two blocks and a serving ace. Perret followed that up with 15 kills, eight digs, three aces and a block in a sweep of Ashwaubenon.

Ben Redlin, Pulaski football: The Pulaski football team finally got back on the field after forgoing the fall season. Behind the play of Redlin, it appeared the Red Raiders didn't miss a beat, throttling Ashwaubenon 62-20. Redlin rushed 21 times for 257 yards and five touchdowns. He added a 56 yard catch and for safe measure completed a pass attempt for 18 yards.

Griffin Ward, Middleton boys cross country: Ward took home an individual title at the Sun Prairie March Madness cross country meet over the weekend. In the five team event, Ward finished the run in 16:45 ahead of teammate Ryan Schollmeyer. Ward topped his teammate after coming up :00.5 seconds short of him in a meet with Verona earlier in the week.
