Week 1 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Fort Atkinson Blackhawks

Fort Atkinson has seen its share of struggles in recent seasons, entering this spring football schedule with a 19-game losing streak. That came to an end right out of the gates, as the Blackhawks took down Milton 20-7 on Saturday at Big Foot High School. A pair of defensive touchdowns were huge, as Mason Brandl recovered a fumble for a score in the third quarter for the team's first points, and Evan Dudzek returned an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. In addition, the running game was solid, with Alec Courtier going for 125 yards and a score, while Cade Cosson added 75 yards on just six carries.

Holmen Vikings

Holmen opened the spring football season with a victory, scoring a 21-6 decision over rival La Crosse Logan. The passing game struggled, as a pair of Holmen quarterbacks combined to go 0-for-5, but it didn't matter much when the running game was dominant, going for 335 yards and three touchdowns on 50 carries. Both Bradeon Graw (130 yards) and Ryland Wall (102) topped the 100-yard mark on the ground. The defense limited Logan to just 27 rushing yards on 19 attempts.

Notre Dame Tritons

Notre Dame won just one game in 2019, but the Tritons have already matched that victory total in 2021 with a come-from-behind 13-10 decision over Menasha last Thursday. Down 10-0 in the fourth quarter, Notre Dame got two short touchdown runs from Will Zellner, the last with just 1:04 left in the game, to cap off the comeback.

Racine Horlick Rebels

Racine Horlick opened the 2021 spring campaign with a hard-fought 16-8 win over crosstown rival Racine Park. The passing game struggled, but Horlick's rushing attack churned out 296 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per attempt as four different players ran for at least 44 yards, led by 104 from Jamarionta Spraggins. The defense limited Park to just 75 yards of offense, including 18 rushing yards on 25 attempts.

Stevens Point Panthers

Stevens Point made the trip over to Saint Mary Catholic High School, where the Panthers took on host Neenah last Friday. It was a close, back-and-forth affair, but one that Stevens Point would end up winning 20-14. Neenah scored first, but neither team would lead by more than one score at any point in the game. It was tied at 14 in the fourth quarter after Neenah pulled even with just over ten minutes remaining in the game, but Stevens Point got what proved to be the game-winning touchdown when Cole Kerchefski plunged in from six yards out with 4:38 left in the game, as the Panthers hung on for the win. Kerchefski ran for 132 yards and two scores in the game, while Riley Warzynski completed 18-of-30 passes for 166 yards and a touchdown.
