Week 1 WisSports.net Spring Football Coaches Poll

There will be no playoffs for the alternate spring football teams, which means there are no divisional placements. In an effort to continue to recognize the outstanding teams and players while placing and evaluating teams in somewhat like-sized groupings, we will be using Large Schools (1000+ enrollment), Medium Schools (999-400), and Small Schools (399 or under) designations.

Large Schools

What a powerhouse group of teams are playing in the spring this year. It showed in the voting, where four different teams received at least one, first-place vote. Kimberly narrowly edged Fond du Lac for the top spot, however. Bay Port is third, followed by Sun Prairie and DeForest. All ten of the teams in this week's poll are unbeaten, but that will certainly change with several highly-anticipated matchups on the docket for Week 2, including a couple top ten showdowns.

Medium Schools

Notre Dame won just one game in 2019, but the Tritons signaled they are much improved, beating Menasha in a 13-10 comeback. It landed Notre Dame atop the Medium Schools rankings, while Menasha is fourth. Lodi's impressive opening win over Edgerton has the Blue Devils second, followed by Greendale.

Small Schools

Our preseason rankings for the Small Schools had three-time defending state champion Saint Mary's Spring on top, followed by two-time defending state champion Black Hawk/Warren (IL). With both those teams losing in Week 1, it left an opening for new teams to step in. Omro, who took down Springs, got the most votes in the poll this week. Bangor was second, followed by Saint Mary's Springs. Kewaunee and Fennimore, who beat Black Hawk/Warren (IL) round out the top five.

8-Player

Just a dozen schools are participating in the 8-player season this spring, meaning we'll be producing a top five each week. Coming in atop the initial poll is Wisconsin Heights, who posted a 28-22 win over Oakfield to open the season. Speaking of Oakfield, they are in the rankings as well at number four. Sturgeon Bay is second, with Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation and Wonewoc/Weston also in the top five.
