The Fort Atkinson Blackhawks have been selected as the Week 1 WSN Spring Team of the Week following a statewide vote on WSN. The team capitalized on defense to take down Milton in spring football action. The Blackhawks were chosen from a strong group of nominees in Week 1. A total of 3,681 votes were cast, as Fort Atkinson's 1,575 votes edged Notre Dame's 1,252 votes.
Fort Atkinson has seen its share of struggles in recent seasons, entering this spring football schedule with a 19-game losing streak. That came to an end right out of the gates, as the Blackhawks took down Milton 20-7 on Saturday at Big Foot High School. A pair of defensive touchdowns were huge, as Mason Brandl recovered a fumble for a score in the third quarter for the team's first points, and Evan Dudzek returned an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. In addition, the running game was solid, with Alec Courtier going for 125 yards and a score, while Cade Cosson added 75 yards on just six carries.
Remember folks, the only way your favorite team can be named WSN Team of the Week is to vote and share the word. Look for the Week 2 nominees to be posted Monday afternoon.
