Belleville earned a hard-fought win over Cuba City on Saturday afternoon at Southwestern High School, defeating the Cubans 14-7 in overtime. It wasn't particularly pretty, as the Wildcats totaled just 126 yards of offense in the game, but they made key plays when they needed to and pulled out the victory, despite being out-gained nearly two-to-one in yardage. Belleville scored first in the game on a one-yard Trevor Syse run, then saw Cuba City tie it up late in the fourth quarter. Belleville attempted a last-second field goal for the win, but it was no good. The game-winner proved to be a Trevor Syse to Carson Syse 25-yard touchdown strike in the first extra period.

Lomira dominated a solid Ripon team last Wednesday on the turf at Lomira, winning 43-6 as the only Ripon points came against the Lions' JV defense with seven seconds remaining. Even after that 59-yard touchdown run by Adam Sina, the Ripon offense still only finished with 61 total yards in the game. Lomira's defense forced three interceptions and recovered a fumble as well, with Avery Johnson wreaking havoc in the backfield from his defensive end spot. Lomira quarterback Zach Dewhurst attempted just three passes in the game, but all three went for touchdowns. The backfield group of Luerenze Johnson, Soph Gengler, Jesse Weber, and Logan Neitzel were effective both running the ball and catching it out of the backfield.

Parkview/Albany went on the road and raced out to a 32-0 fourth quarter lead on host Deerfield before cruising home to a 32-16 victory. The team's running game was the stretch, accounting for 341 yards and six touchdowns on 52 carries. Korben Brown did the bulk of the damage, running for 188 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 11.1 yards per carry. Gauge Pomplun also had an interception return touchdown (and three total interceptions in the game) for the co-op program, who evens its record at 1-1 ahead of next week's showdown against New Glarus/Monticello.

Saint Mary's Springs rebounded from an opening loss to Omro in a big way, dominating crosstown rival Winnebago Lutheran 42-0 last Wednesday. Defense and running the football were the key factors, just as they have been for decades under head coach Bob Hyland. The Ledgers allowed just 29 yards of offense in the entire game, and ran for 374 yards and six touchdowns on 42 carries themselves. David Mueller did the biggest share of the damage on the ground, carrying the ball 16 times for 194 yards and two scores. Braydon King added two rushing touchdowns while Isaac Hyland ran for 77 yards and a score.

Superior is off to a 2-0 start, capping off a sweep of the Eau Claire schools with a 28-19 win over Memorial on Thursday. The Spartans needed to rally from a 19-7 third-quarter deficit, but scored the game's final 21 points to pull out the win. Quarterback Kaden Kimmes scored on a one-yard touchdown plunge to begin the comeback, with Lars Olson returning an interception 25-yard for the go-ahead score with 3:10 left in the third quarter. Ross Rivord added an insurance touchdown run in the fourth. After sweeping Eau Claire, the Spartans have the La Crosse schools, Central then Logan, coming up on the schedule.
