Week 3 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

De Pere Redbirds

The state's longest active conference winning streak came to an end on Friday as De Pere took down Bay Port 20-13, ending the Pirates' 38-game conference run. The last team to beat Bay Port in league play? Also De Pere, back in October of 2015. The Redbirds jumped out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter, as Gabe Herman threw a 72-yard touchdown to Maddux Shinners and then caught a 15-yard score from Adam Timbrook. After Bay Port pulled within 14-13 of the Redbirds in the fourth, De Pere answered with a touchdown drive that culminated in Herman hitting Shinners again, this one from 11 yards out. Herman completed 12-of-18 passes in the game for 160 yards and two touchdowns, while Adam Timbrook ran for 126 yards in addition to his passing touchdown. Shinners hauled in four passes for 115 yards and two scores. The defense limited Bay Port to just 184 yards of offense in the game.

G-E-T Red Hawks

G-E-T found itself down 13-0 early in the second quarter of a Coulee Conference game against unbeaten Arcadia on Friday night but the Red Hawks didn't panic. They scored late in the half to make it 13-6 at halftime, then went ahead in the fourth and held on for a 20-19 win. G-E-T's defense came up big, stopping Arcadia's two-point conversion attempt with 1:07 left that would have put the Raiders in front. Not surprisingly, Luke Vance was huge for the Red Hawks, rushing 24 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, adding a 72-yard touchdown reception as well. Justice Vaaler added 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground as well. G-E-T claimed its 12th straight conference win, some coming in the Coulee and some last season as a member of the South Central Conference.

Greendale Panthers

It's fitting that on the weekend that the green jacket was awarded at The Masters, it was all about the "green" in the Woodland Conference, as Greendale squared off with Greenfield. While Greenfield ran more offensive plays and the yardage was virtually identical, Greendale made more plays when it counted in securing a 34-14 victory. Will Brust hit Will Vaile for a three-yard touchdown to open the scoring in the first quarter, and Sam Sommerfeld returned a punt 48 yards for a second midway through the second to give Greendale a lead it would never surrender. Sommerfeld ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the game in addition to his big special teams score. Brust was very efficient, completing 10-of-12 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns, adding 52 yards on the ground.

Milwaukee Lutheran Red Knights

In a showdown of unbeaten Woodland-Red teams Milwaukee Lutheran and Brown Deer, there wasn't much offense from either side, but a key special teams play helped lift Milwaukee Lutheran to a 12-6 victory. Brown Deer led 6-0 late in the second quarter when Aveon Williams returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown to tie the score. It remained that way until early in the fourth quarter, when Wiliams completed his only pass attempt of the game, a 20-yard touchdown to Jordan Goodman for what turned out to be the game-winner. Milwaukee Lutheran posted just 147 yards of offense in the game, but limited Brown Deer to just 160 and used the big punt return to squeak out the victory.

Necedah Cardinals

Just a week after a multitude of reasons forced Necedah to cancel a game against Bangor, the Cardinals were able to regroup and score an exciting 44-39 win over Brookwood in a Scenic Bluffs Conference game. The last time the teams played in 2019, Brookwood was a 48-0 winner. Quarterback Landen Murphy had a nice game, completing nine-of-ten passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, adding a short rushing score as well. Mehki Baradji ran for 136 yards and a touchdown on nine attempts, adding four catches for 104 yards and a score. Stephen Daley also eclipsed 100 yards on the ground and Josiah Hansen caught two scores for head coach Chris Rice.
