Looking Back

It was an exciting week in 8-Player Football, with some high-scoring games and a couple matchups of ranked teams.

Wisconsin Heights solidified its spot as the best team in the spring season once again, hammering previously third-ranked Kickapoo/La Farge 76-0. The Vanguards racked up 255 passing yards and 239 rushing yards in the game, limiting the Predators to just 35 total yards.

The other ranked matchup was close until the fourth quarter, when Oakfield scored three times to pull away for a 39-8 victory over Chequamegon at Kewaskum High School. Seven different players had at least one carry for the Oaks, who had 292 yards on the ground. Grant Bass and Mason Tapp combined for three touchdown passes.

Despite being out-gained by Gibraltar, Sturgeon Bay secured a 50-34 victory.

The last time Wonewoc/Weston and North Crawford met up, North Crawford ran for more than 600 yards but lost in a high-scoring thriller. This time around, the outcome was less in doubt, as Wonewoc/Weston scored 34 points in the second quarter, including twice in the final 15 seconds, and would cruise to a 54-22 win.

Sevastopol and Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Oneida/Providence combined for 1,091 yards of offense on Friday night, as the Green Bay NEW Lutheran tri-op would claim a 54-36 win. Marshall Bukowski ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns, which helped overcome 336 passing yards and five touchdowns by Sevastopol quarterback Jack de Young.

Looking Ahead

Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Oneida/Providence has faced a very challenging schedule to this point, an that will continue this week as the team takes on Oakfield at Oneida Nation High School on Saturday at 7 pm. Oddly enough, the teams will meet next week as well at Kewaskum.

In Friday action, Gibraltar will make the trip to Chequamegon. The Vikings of Gibraltar are 0-3 but have been competitive against some very good teams this year. They have a chance to break through for their first win against the fifth-ranked Screaming Eagles.

The first time that Kickapoo/La Farge and Wonewoc/Weston played it was a very exciting, competitive game won by the Predators of K/LF. Coming off a win over North Crawford, Wonewoc/Weston gets another shot at Kickapoo/La Farge this week, this time at Kickapoo.

Star of the Week: Hunter Walz, Wisconsin Heights

Wisconsin Heights left no doubt about who the best 8-Player team is this spring, completely shutting down Kickapoo/La Farge in a 76-0 victory. Senior quarterback Hunter Walz was extremely efficient, completing 21-of-29 passes for 255 yards and six touchdowns through the air. He added 25 rushing yards and a score on the ground as well.
