WisSports.net Week 5 Player of the Week Nominees

Blake Fletcher, Racine Horlick

Just a sophomore, Racine Horlick's Blake Fletcher has really come into his own this season on both sides of the ball. In a 41-18 win over previously undefeated Milwaukee Lutheran, Fletcher ran the ball 17 times for 166 yards and three touchdowns, adding 58 passing yards and a score. As the middle linebacker on defense, he led the team with nine tackles and handled punting duties for the Rebels. Horlick needed a boost in the fourth after Milwaukee Lutheran cut the lead to 21-18, and Fletcher acounted for two scores in 14 seconds to give the team a cushion. First he scored on a 24-yard run with 9:26 left, then threw a two-yard touchdown to Jordan Brown with 9:12 remaining in the game.

Carter Fonger, Superior

Superior found itself down 7-0 at halftime against Sparta but managed to tie it up at 14 to send the game to overtime. After Sparta scored first, Superior's Carter Fonger went in from seven yards out on a touchdown run where he would not be denied, and the Spartans converted the two-point attempt to claim a 22-21 victory. Fonger scored three rushing touchdowns in the game, carrying the ball 20 times for a hard-fought 73 yards. He was all over the field on defense, recording 10 solo tackles and 24 overall, with three tackles for loss and a sack.

Lucas Heyroth, Lodi

Lodi and Columbus entered their Week 5 matchup unbeaten and ranked in the top ten of the WisSports.net Medium Schools Coaches Poll. Lodi led 7-0 heading into the fourth quarter, when things got really exciting. After a Columbus field goal pulled the Cardinals within 7-3, Lucas Heyroth responded with a 78-yard touchdown run moments later to put the Blue Devils up two scores. However, a furious finish by Columbus would tie the score at 14 with just over a minute to go before Lodi's Chandler Curtis kicked a 24-yard field goal with six seconds left for a thrilling 17-14 win. Heyroth was a workhorse for the Blue Devils, carrying the ball 24 times for 238 yards (averaging 9.9 yards per carry) and the long touchdown run.

Peerson Kephart, Southwestern

Southwestern junior quarterback Peerson Kephart tied a state record with eight passing touchdowns on Friday, as the Wildcats downed Poynette 62-34. Kephart completed 24-of-48 passes for 465 yards in the game with no interceptions. He threw two touchdowns in the first quarter, three in the second, two in the third quarter, and one in the final period. In addition to his exploits on offense, he also returned an interception on defense 50 yards for a second quarter touchdown.

Caden Pendleton, Kimberly

Kimberly came out firing and never stopped as the Papermakers blew the doors off rival Appleton North 45-14 on Friday night. Junior quarterback Caden Pendleton threw four of his five touchdown passes in the first half, including two in the last minute, as Kimberly built a 38-7 halftime lead. For the game, Pendleton completed 12-of-15 passes for 292 yards and five touchdowns, good enough for a perfect passer rating of 158.3.
