Looking Back

While two games had to be canceled in Week 5 due to COVID protocols, thankfully the opponents of those impacted teams were able to get together, with Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Oneida/Providence meeting up with Gibraltar. The Green Bay NEW Lutheran co-op controlled things most of the game, going up 14-0 and later 31-6, but Gibraltar made it a little more interesting with two touchdowns in the final two and-a-half minutes. In the 31-20 win, Green Bay NEW Lutheran got some balanced offense, throwing for 161 yards and rushing for 233.

Top-ranked Wisconsin Heights continued to dominate, going up 49-0 at halftime on North Crawford before cruising home for a 63-8 victory. Hunter Walz threw six touchdowns to four different players and added one on the ground.

In the first meeting this season between the teams, Kickapoo/La Farge pulled away from Wonewoc/Weston for a win. Last week, however, the Silver Wolves won 24-22, stopping a potential game-tying two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Sturgeon Bay defeated Sevastopol 36-20, though the Clippers have not entered stats information.

Looking Ahead

This will be the last week of the spring 8-Player season. On Friday, Wisconsin Heights looks to polish off an unbeaten year with a home game against Wonewoc/Weston, a team they defeated 49-6 earlier in the season.

North Crawford versus visiting Kickapoo/La Farge is also a rematch. K/LF started the year 2-0, including a 44-12 win over North Crawford in Week 3, and was ranked as high as third, but the Predators have dropped two straight since then.

Oakfield and Green Bay NEW Lutheran/Oneida/Providence were supposed to play last week, but out of an abundance of caution, the game got pushed to Saturday of the final week of the season. Oakfield has won three straight since opening with a close loss to Wisconsin Heights.

The other Saturday game features Door County rivals Sevastopol and Gibraltar squaring off.

Star of the Week: Hunter Schmitt, Wonewoc/West

Wonewoc/Weston avenged an earlier loss with a 24-22 decision over Kickapoo/La Farge last Friday. Hunter Schmitt threw a pair of first half touchdowns to stake the Silver Wolves to an early lead and would add a touchdown throw in the fourth quarter as well to help boost the margin. Schmitt finished with 119 passing yards and three touchdowns on five-of-eight passing, adding 91 rushing yards as well.
