Week 6 WSN Spring Football Player of the Week Nominees

The WisSports.net Player of the Week is back again for 2021. Voting is featured at the bottom of this article. Voting is open until Thursday at 4 pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word (hint: Social Media is a great way to do so). Users may vote once per day.

WisSports.net Week 6 Player of the Week Nominees

Caden Brunell, Columbus

Columbus rebounded from its first loss of the year to claim a 42-6 victory over New Glarus/Monticello. After a scoreless first quarter, Caden Brunell scored two short touchdowns to lift the Cardinals to a 14-0 halftime advantage. Brunell would add two more rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and capped things off with a 40-yard touchdown reception in the fourth. He finished with 135 rushing yards and four scores on 22 carries, plus that 40-yard touchdown catch. He was also one of the team's top tacklers with seven.

Easton Scherer, West Allis Hale

West Allis Hale posted an impressive 40-6 win over Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday, blowing open what had been a 12-0 game at halftime. Easton Scherer scored a seven-yard touchdown on the ground to open the second half scoring, and added a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown to help seal it up in the fourth quarter. He led the Huskies with nine tackles on defense.

Blake Schraufnagel, Mayville

Mayville won an old-fashioned slugfest against Campbellsport on Saturday in a quick moving 21-6 victory. Sophomore running back Blake Schraufnagel scored all three touchdowns for the Cardinals, carrying the ball 23 times for 182 yards along the way. He opened the scoring with a two-yard plunge midway through the second quarter, and added two more long touchdowns in the third quarter to help lift Mayville to victory. He added two catches for 12 yards plus 10 tackles and an interception on defense.

Trevor Syse, Belleville

Belleville came out firing and controlled things throughout in a 35-7 running clock victory over Fennimore on Friday. Trevor Syse was surgical from the quarterback spot, throwing a 74-yard touchdown to Jaxson Pier less than two minutes into the game. he added another passing touchdown shortly before halftime, and connected with Pier again early in the second half to stretch the Wildcats' advantage to the running clock threshold. Syse finished with 240 passing yards and three touchdowns (no interceptions) while completing 14-of-21 passes. He added 25 rushing yards and kicked all five extra points as well.

Kyle Walljasper, Fond du Lac

It was yet another dominating performance for the Fond du Lac Cardinals, who spent most of the second half with a running clock against a good Appleton North team, winning 42-7Kyle Walljasper continued his impressive spring with a huge rushing performance, toting the rock 20 times for 290 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He didn't throw it much, but did hit on five-of-eight passes for 71 yards and two more touchdowns as the Cardinals remained unbeaten heading into a Week 7 showdown with Kimberly.
