Fond du Lac senior Kyle Walljasper was named the WFCA Large School Offensive Player of the Year

The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association has announced its All-State and Player of the Year Awards for 2020 and 2021. The WFCA is producing separate Large School and Small School All-State Teams once again, with seven players also identified as part of an 8-Player All-State Team.

The WFCA Coach of the Year honor, which is presented in conjunction with the Green Bay Packers, will be announced soon.

Fond du Lac senior quarterback Kyle Walljasper was chosen as the WFCA Large School Offensive Player of the Year. He led the state in the spring season with 1,467 yards and 21 touchdowns on just 77 carries, as he averaged an absurd 19.1 yards per attempt. He ran it more this year than 2019, when he threw for more than 1500 yards, but still completed 63.2% of his passes for 769 yards and nine touchdowns. He finished his career with 2,456 passing yards and 26 scores to go with 2,829 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns. Of course, the pièce de résistance came in the final game of his career when he ran for 306 yards and five touchdowns on 15 carries to go with 83 passing yards and a score in a 71-47 domination of Kimberly.

Hunter Wohler, a senior defensive back from Muskego, was named the Large School Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. A three-year varsity player, the Warriors did not lose a game during that time, going a perfect 37-0 with a pair of Division 1 state championships. Considered by many as the top defensive back prospect to come out of the state in many years, the Wisconsin commit had 78 tackles this year with a pair of interceptions. Patrolling sideline-to-sideline and deep middle to in the box, Wohler has 355 tackles in his career.

Lake Mills senior quarterback Adam Moen received Small School Offensive Player of the Year recognition. As a junior in 2019, Lake Mills quarterback Adam Moen set a new record for most combined passing and rushing yards with 4,477 (3,517 passing, 960 rushing), breaking the previous record held by Cedar Grove-Belgium's Josh Weiss. His single-season passing yardage from 2019 was fourth all-time. His combined 60 touchdowns (39 passing, 21 rushing) were the second-most in state history in a single-season. In this shortened 2020 season, Moen has been outstanding once again, completing 176-of-250 passes for 2,326 yards and 24 touchdowns in nine games. He added 616 yards and 12 scores on the ground as well. His career totals sit at 8,117 passing yards (fourth all-time) and 89 touchdown throws (third all-time) to go with 2,114 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns on the ground. His 10,231 combined rushing and passing yards is second in state history. He had more than 300 receiving yards as a freshman also.

Small School Defensive Player of the Year honors went to Lomira senior defensive lineman Avery Johnson. Lomira finished the 2021 spring season unbeaten, and Johnson was a dominating figure up front on both sides of the ball, earning WFCA All-State on offense and defense. The senior defensive lineman spent so much time in the opposing backfield that he should have had to pay rent, recording 63 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and four sacks for the Lions.

Braelon Allen of Fond du Lac (running back, defensive back), Carson Hinzman of Saint Croix Central (offensive line, defensive line), Evan Ladwig of Plymouth (offensive line, defensive line), Billy Schrauth of Saint Mary's Springs (offensive line, defensive line), and Ben Wellhoefer of Omro (running back, outside linebacker) joined Johnson as the only two-way All-State selections.

Muskego defensive back Hunter Wohler, Muskego running back Alex Current, Kimberly running back Caleb Frazer, Homestead defensive end Ayo Adebogun, Saint Croix Central offensive lineman Carson Hinzman, Lake Mills quarterback Adam Moen, Cumberland receiver Jack Martens, and Lomira defensive end Avery Johnson are repeat selections on the WFCA All-State Teams.

Speaking of 8-Player, the WFCA produced a seven-member, 8-Player All-State Team this year. Belmont senior Riley Christensen was the 8-Player Football Player of the Year after helping the Braves to an unbeaten season in the fall.
