VNN Athlete of the Week: May 10-16

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of May 10 through 16. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: May 10-16

Kennedy Adams, Kewaskum girls soccer: Adams has been a goal scoring machine for Kewaskum this season, piling up points on the WSN statistics leaderboard. In a 6-0 win over Winneconne, the senior midfielder netted five goals. She followed that up with two more goals in a 3-0 win over Kettle Moraine Lutheran. Adams finished the week off with an assists as the Indians beat West Bend East 8-1.

Claire Beck, Jefferson softball: Beck has been almost untouchable at both the plate and the mound this season and that was the case last week. In a 17-0 win over Lakeside Lutheran, Beck pitched a five inning no-hitter, striking out 10 batters. She followed that up with another no-hitter, this time striking out 16 in a 4-0 win over Clinton. The senior star finished out the week by allowing just one hit and striking out nine in a 21-0 four-inning victory over Whitewater. At the plate, Beck went 13 of 16 with 15 RBIS, four doubles and six home runs.

Logan Dobberstein, Pewaukee baseball: Dobberstein and Pewaukee baseball has been dominant this season so far, going 14-0. The Kansas State recruit went 11 of 20 from the plate over five games. He had four doubles, one home run, drove in 10 runs and scored seven runs of his own. In a 9-2 win over New Berlin West, the standout junior pitched five and 2/3 innings, striking out 10 batters.

David Neitzke-Pizarro, Appleton North boys soccer: Appleton North took home their first state title at the alternate season WIAA Boys State Tournament last weekend. Neitzke-Pizarro didn't let anything by him in the two wins. First in a 7-0 win over Racine Horlick, he had seven saves in the shutout. He then recorded another shutout, recording five saves in a 1-0 win over De Pere to capture the Division 1 crown.

Matt Schutt, McFarland boys soccer: Schutt was also incredible in net this past weekend as McFarland won their first ever state championship. In the 3-0 shutout of Fort Atkinson in the semis, he had two saves. Schutt then allowed just one goal and had five saves as the Spartans downed Notre Dame 6-1 to win the Division 2 state title.
