Champions crowned at 2021 WIAA Boys Golf State Championship

Three divisions of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Boys Golf Championships crowned team and individual winners on the final day of competition Tuesday.

Kettle Moraine wins its first State title by capturing the Division 1 championship with a four-player, 36-hole score of 598 for the tournament at Wild Rock Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells. Homestead finished second 19 stokes behind the Lasers at 617, and Middleton was third at 618.

Individually, Jacob Beckman of Middleton shot a 4-under-par 140 in the tournament to earn medalist honors after tying for 12th in 2019, the last time the championships were held with last year’s meet canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bennett Swavely of Hudson finished second, a stroke behind Beckman with a 141, and Ben Pausha of Kettle Moraine finished at -2 in third place.

Edgewood is once again the Division 2 team champion, winning its fourth straight title. The Crusaders fired a four-player score of 637 for the tournament held at the Arbor/Lakes Course at Trappers Turn Golf Club. It is the fifth team championship for Edgewood overall. Lakeland was runner-up, 17 strokes back of the champion with a score of 654, and Marinette was third at 662.

Ethan Arndt of Edgewood emerged as the individual champion after entering the second day of competition in a three-way tie for the lead. He shot a 3-over-par 147, which was three strokes better than the 150 turned in by Trent Meyer of Northwestern, who finished runner-up after entering the second day tied for the lead.

Kohler won the Division 3 championship with a four-player score of 659 on the Arbor/Lakes Course at Trappers Turn Golf Club. It’s the program’s second State title after winning its first in 2011. Durand finished second, a distant 27 strokes back of the Blue Bombers at 686. Mineral Point moved up a place on the second day to finish third with a score of 700.

Noah Kirsch of Lancaster earned medalist honors in Division 3 by firing a 71 today to finish at +3 with a score of 147. He finished 20th in Division 3 in 2019. Trey Oswald of Parkview, who possessed the lead after the first day, finished tied for second place with Nick Higley of Eleva-Strum. Both shot a 154 to finish at +10.
