VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: June 14-20

Jacob Beckman, Middleton boys golf: Beckman was the individual medalist in Division 1 this past weekend at the WIAA State Meet held at Wild Rock in Wisconsin Dells. The senior and Wisconsin commit shot a 140 overall, going four under par. He finished one stroke ahead of Hudson's Bennett Swavely to capture the gold after finishing twelfth in 2019. As a team, the Cardinals finished third overall.

Lauren Hernandez, New Berlin Eisenhower girls soccer: The Lions advanced to the state tournament this past weekend by picking up a pair of sectional wins behind the strong play of Hernandez. The junior forward first netted a hat trick and added an assist in an 8-0 win over East Troy in the semis. Hernandez then had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Kewaskum to lead Eisenhower to a sectional title.

Noah Kirsch, Lancaster boys golf: Kirsch shot a 76 the first day of the state meet, but followed it up with a 71 to shoot three over par and capture the WIAA Division 3 individual title, which was held at Trapper's Turn in the Dells. Kirsch's score of 147 was good enough to finish seven strokes ahead of second place finishers Trey Oswald of Parkview and Nick Higley of Eleva-Strum.

Raegan Sorensen, Unity girls track and field: Sorensen partook in four different events at sectionals this past week as she went on to qualify for state in three of those four events. The senior finished third in her sectional in the 100 meter dash in 13.14 seconds and also third in the triple jump with 35 feet, both good enough to qualify for the state meet. In the pole vault, Sorensen set a Division 3 state record by vaulting 12-03". If she repeats that this week at the state meet, she'll break the state meet record by six inches.

Alex Sviatoslavksy, Edgewood boys tennis: Sviatoslavsky looked to avenge his runner-up finish from 2019 this past week at the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament. Coming in as the top seed, the senior took care of business, downing second seed Adrian Yin of Brookfield Academy 6-1 and 6-0 in the finals. Sviatoslavsky finished 26-0 on the season, ending her prep career with a D2 individual title.
