VNN Athlete of the Week: June 21-27

Below are the VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of June 21 through 27. Voting is open until Thursday at 4pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

VNN Athlete of the Week Nominees: June 21-27

Sam Blaskowski, Oshkosh West boys track and field: Blaskowski took part of four events at the WIAA State Tournament this past weekend, winning three of them for the Wildcats in Division 1. The senior won the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes with times of 10.83 and 22.22 seconds. Blaskowski then went on to win the Long Jump with a distance of 23-05.75 and was a part of the 4x100 meter relay that took second place. His three wins and second place relay finish accounted for all 38 points for Oshkosh West and led them to a second place team finish in Division 1.

Sydney Feldner, McFarland girls soccer: McFarland captured their first WIAA State Championship in girls soccer this past Friday behind the leg of Feldner. First in a 2-0 win over New Berlin Eisenhower, she netted a lone goal in the twentieth minute. McFarland then squared off with Plymouth in the Division 3 State Title where Feldner netted two goals and added an assist as the Spartans won 4-1 to capture the gold ball.

Lucas Heyroth, Lodi boys track and field: Lodi took home the WIAA Division 2 State Title in boys track and field this past week and Heyroth was a major reason why. The junior took home gold in both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles in times of 14.56 and 39.19 seconds respectively. He then went on to win the long jump with a distance of 22-10.00. Heyroth was also a part of the 4x200 meter relay that took fourth place. With his three individual golds and fourth place relay finish, Heyroth accounted for 35 of the team's 40 total points.

Kayci Martensen, Benton/Shullsburg/Scales Mound girls track and field: Martensen advanced to the WIAA Division 3 State Tournament in three events this past weekend and took home gold in all of them. First in the 800 meter run, she won with a time of 2:16.59, winning by over two seconds. The junior then went on to win the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs in times of 5:09.16 and 11:16.70 minutes. Martensen's three first place finish accounted for 30 points and helped Benton/Shullsburg/Scales Mound's third place finish in Division 3.

Delea Martins, Shorewood girls track and field: Shorewood finished in second place as a team in Division 2 this past weekend at the WIAA State Tournament and Martins accounted for 28 of the 52 team points. In the 100 meter dash, the sophomore took home gold in 12.07 seconds. She followed it up with a win in the 200 meter dash in 25 seconds flat. Martins ended her day coming in second place in the 400 meter dash, finishing the race in 57.26 seconds.
