The Mishicot softball team matched what the girls' basketball team did in February by finishing the year with a gold ball.

The Indians, the 2019 D4 state runner-up, scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-3 lead and went on to win by that score, capturing the Division 4 state title.

Mishicot collected 10 hits, including three players with multiple hits. Shortstop Abby Garceau led the way with three hits, and added an RBI, and run scored.

Pitcher Ashlyn Bennin and left-fielder Ally McArdle each had a pair of hits. Bennin also led the team with two RBIs.

In the circle, Bennin allowed four hits while striking out two and walking three in the victory.

Mishicot, coached by Dawn Shimek, finishes its year with a 27-3 record and first-ever state title, which was the school's second team state championship.

Juda/Albany scored two runs in the top of the first inning and tied the game at three in the top of the fourth before allowing the three runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Panthers' pitcher Avary Briggs allowed 10 hits and six runs (five earned) while striking out one and walking two in the contest.

Juda/Albany, coached by Bill Davis, finishes the year with a 19-7 record in the program's third state tournament appearance.

State Semifinals

Juda/Albany topped previously unbeaten Blair-Taylor, 7-5, to advance to the Division 4 state championship game.

The Panthers, which are making their second appearance in a state title game, claimed the D4 state title in 2017.

Juda/Albany scored four runs in the top of the fourth inning after the teams were scoreless after three. Blair-Taylor got within two after scoring twice in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

The Panthers scored one run in each of the final three innings and held off a late push by Blair-Taylor, which scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh.

Avary Briggs got the win for Juda/Albany, pitching the first six and two-thirds innings while allowing seven hits and five runs (three earned) with three strikeouts and three walks. Alana Durtschi finished the game in the circle for the Panthers.

Briggs led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Catcher Myah Johnson also recorded a multi-hit game, hitting 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Blair-Taylor was led offensively by Chloe Wagner and Abby Thompson, who each went 2-for-4. Wagner scored twice while Thompson scored once and drove in a run.

Thompson took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing 11 hits and seven runs (all earned) with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Mishicot is headed to the Division 4 state championship game.

The Indians topped Phillips, 2-1, in a state semifinal at King Park in Green Bay.

Mishicot will be playing in the D4 state title game for the second consecutive season. The Indians fell to Horicon in the 2019 D4 state championship and the 2020 season was canceled due to COVID-19.

Ashlyn Benin earned the victory in the circle for Mishicot. She allowed just three hits and an unearned run while striking out two.

Bennin also collected two of the Indians' four hits.

Mishicot trailed 1-0 after two innings before tying the game with an RBI groundout by Maddie Dokey which plated Ally McArdle. The Indians' go-ahead run came on a single by Abby Garceau in the fifth inning which scored pinch-runner Courtney Wood.

Phillips pitcher Jada Eggebrecht allowed four hits, two runs (both earned), and struck out two in the loss.
