The Dodgeville softball team captured the program's first-ever softball state championship on Tuesday in Green Bay.

The Dodgers topped Prescott, 5-3, in the Divison 3 state championship game.

Dodgeville pounded out 12 hits, led by left-fielder and leadoff hitter Grace Graber, who finished with three hits and two RBIs.

Pitcher Annika Lord was strong in the circle for coach Gene Van Dyck and the Dodgers.

Lord gave up just four hits, didn't allow an earned run, and struck out seven while walking three. All three of Prescott's runs were unearned.

The Dodgers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth on a single by designated player Cora Storkson which scored Audrey White from second.

Dodgeville added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when shortstop JoJo Heimerl singled to right field to score McKenna Reilly, who started the inning with a pinch-hit single.

The Dodgers, which were ranked No. 5 in the final WFSCA/WSN Coaches Poll, finish the year with a 28-3 record.

Dodgeville's two previous trips to the state tournament ended in Division 2 state runner-up finishes.

Prescott's leading hitter was shortstop Isabella Lenz, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Cardinals, coached by Nick Johnson, finish the year with a 24-4 record, in the program's sixth state tournament appearance.

State Semifinals

Dodgeville advanced to its third softball state championship game in program history.

The Dodgers defeated Lomira, 10-4, in a Division 3 state semifinal at King Park in Green Bay.

Lomira got within one run, 4-3, after four and one-half innings before Dodgeville scored seven runs over the next two innings en route to the six-run victory.

The Dodgers racked up 16 hits, which included five players recording at least two hits.

Leading the way were Grace Graber and Audrey White, who each collected three hits. Graber added two RBIs and a run scored while White scored twice in the win.

Pitcher Annika Lord earned the victory for the Dodgers. She allowed nine hits and four runs (two earned) with 10 strikeouts and one walk.

Lomira was led offensively by Rylee Baetz, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Dodgeville's previous two state tournament appearances resulted in Division 2 state runner-up finishes (1994 and 2000).

Prescott is headed to its first softball state championship game in program history.

This is the Cardinals' third consecutive state tournament appearance and sixth overall.
