2021 Girls WBCA All-Star Games: South wins three of the five games

The 44th annual Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Games were held in Wisconsin Dells on Wednesday, July 14 at JustAgame Fieldhouse. 

The South teams won three of the five games. They won Division 3, 4, and 5 while the North teams won the Division 1 and 2 games. 

Division 1: North 93, South 73

The North All-Star squad led 52-32 at the half and cruised to a 93-73 win over the South All-Star team. The North knocked down 10 three-pointers while the South connected on six triples. Madison Memorial's Mia Morel, who is headed to play at NCAA Division I Cal Baptist, finished with a game-best 21 points to lead the North to the win. Joining her in double figures were Neenah's Mack Hogenson (D3 Wisconsin Lutheran College commit, 15 points), Kimberly's Maddy Schreiber (D1 UW-Green Bay signee, 14 points), Hudson's Audrey Hatfield (D1 St. Thomas signee, 11 points), and Kaukauna's Chloe Van Zeeland (D1 Illinois State signee, 11 points). The South team was led in scoring by Arrowhead's Phoebe Frentzel (D1 St. Thomas signee) and Franklin's Olivia Rangel (D3 Carrol University commit), who each tallied 15 points. Also reaching double digits in points for the South squad was Watertown's Teya Maas (NJCAA D2 Bryant & Stratton College signee), who netted 13 points. 

Division 2: North 111, South 71

The North WBCA All-Stars jumped out to a 55-28 lead at the break and rolled to a 111-71 victory against the South squad. The North buried 14 three-pointers while the South made seven from behind the arc. Beaver Dam's Natalie Jens (D2 Minnesota State Moorhead signee) finished with a game-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers. Notre Dame's Sammy Opichka (D1 St. Thomas signee) and Georgia Gregoire, and Onalaska's Olivia Gamoke (D2 Sioux Falls signee) all netted 14 points. Other notable contributors were West De Pere's Alexa Thomson (D3 UW-Stevens Point commit) and Beaver Dam's Paige Yagodinski (D3 St. Olaf College commit), who netted 12 and eight points, respectively. The South All-Star team was led in scoring by New Berlin Eisenhower's Kylie Lemberger (NJCAA D2 McHenry County College), who finished with 13 points. Baraboo's Maya White Eagle (NJCAA D2 Triton College) tallied nine points, and Oregon's Carleigh Roberts and McFarland's Katie Hildebrandt (D1 North Dakota State) each scored eight points. 

Division 3: South 100, North 83

The South All-Stars held a three-point halftime lead before taking control of the game in the third quarter, en route to beating the North All-Stars, 100-83. The South team knocked down 14 three-pointers while the North squad connected on nine. Lake Country Lutheran's Julia Hirt (NAIA Concordia Univ. Ann Arbor signee) finished with a team-high 18 points for the South squad. Joining her in double figures for the South All-Stars were Baluck Deang (16 points), Turner's Olivia Tinder (UW-Whitewater commit, 13 points), and Lodi's Lauryn Milne (UW-La Crosse commit, 10 points). The North All-Stars were led by Prescott's Isabell Lenz, an NCAA Division II Michigan Tech signee, who tallied a game-high 20 points. Ellsworth's Autumn Earney (D3 Bethel University commit) and Freedom's Callie Genke (UW-Green Bay signee) added 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

Division 4: South 77, North 57

The South All-Stars led by 11 at the half before cruising to a 77-57 win over the North All-Stars. The South squad connected on five 3-pointers while the North made two triples. Marshall's Anna Lutz, an NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee signee, scored a team-best 18 points for the South All-Stars. Howards Grove's Maddy Near also reached double figures, netting 11 points in the win. The North All-Stars were led by Unity's Reagan Sorensen, who finished with a game-high 27 points. 

Division 5: South 51, North 49

The South All-Stars overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to defeat the North All-Stars, 51-49. The South squad made four 3-pointers while the South team connected on five triples. Black Hawk's Bailey Butler, an NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay signee, finished with a team-high 13 points. The 2021 Miss Basketball award winner connected on three 3-pointers in the victory. Independence's Ziy Conner, an NJCAA D2 North Iowa CC, added nine points for the South squad. The North All-Stars were led by Edgar's Makenna, a UW-Superior commit, who tallied a game-best 14 points, which included three 3-pointers.
