RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: August 23-39
Cole Berghorn, Badger football: Badger picked up their first win of the season last Friday, topping Milton 26-14. Berghorn ran wild for the Badgers. The senior back rushed a whopping 32 times for 195 yards and three scores. Berghorn started the scoring off with an 85 yard touchdown run in the first quarter and he closed out the scoring for the game with a one yard touchdown run in the fourth.
Brianna Cantrell, Appleton North girls volleyball: Appleton North came out on fire in the first week of their season going a perfect 12-0 and taking home first place finishes at the FVA Classic and the Homestead Joust. Cantrell was extraordinary in the two tournaments beginning with a team leading 24 kills during the 5-0 run at the FVA Classic. She turned things up a notch at the Homestead Joust, recording 57 kills, 19 digs and 11 aces during the two days.
Michael Hammond, Living Word Lutheran boys soccer: Living Word Lutheran started their 2021 season 1-0-1 during the opening week and Hammond led the way in the scoring department. In a 12-0 win over Hustisford/Dodgeland, he netted three goals and added an assist. The Timberwolves then tied Brookfield Academy 3-3 and Hammond recorded his second straight hat trick, accounting for all three of his team's goals.
Emma Johnson, Luxemburg-Casco girls volleyball: Johnson was incredible as Luxemburg-Casco went 7-1 and came away with the title at the Sun Prairie Invitational. In those eight games, she put up huge statistical numbers. The senior setter had 149 assists, 48 digs, 19 kills, 12 blocks and seven aces throughout the tournament.
Jakob Kidd, Superior boys soccer: Kidd was unstoppable on the pitch as Superior scored a pair of 8-1 wins in their first week of action. In the win over Menomonie, Kidd netted himself six goals and assisted on the other two, accounting for all eight goals. The senior forward followed that performance up with four goals and one assist in Superior's win over Hibbing/Chisholm.
