We asked, you voted, and Waterloo at Markesan has been selected as the Kwik Trip Game of the Week for Week 3 of the high school football season. A total of 2,033 votes were cast, as this one received 608 of those votes.

The Kwik Trip Game of the Week allows you, the fans, to pick what you feel is the biggest high school football game in the state each week. Not only will that game get featured on WisSports.net, but WSN General Manager Travis Wilson will make it his destination that week, with updates, photos, videos, and stories from the big game.

And of course, no trip to a big game in Wisconsin would be complete without a stop or two at Kwik Trip! Kwik Trip is a family-owned company with more than 700 stores around the Midwest, and has the best selection of snacks, drinks, and of course gas to fuel your pre- or post-game needs. So what will it be for you...glazers, chocolate milk, or maybe Travis' favorite, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich!

The Eastern Suburban Conference race should be extremely competitive in 2021, and several of the expected contenders have looked very good in non-league play. Conference action gets underway this week, however, and a big one between Markesan and Waterloo highlights the schedule.

"Our first 2 games went well enough to win them but we have many things to clean up and improve upon," said Markesan coach John Dunlavy. "The goal is always to try to get better each and every day and if we do that we hope to be sitting in a good position as the season progresses."

Both teams are undefeated so far, as Waterloo running back Eugene Wolf is third in the state with 493 rushing yards. Markesan's defense has looked very good, and will be a tough test for the Pirates.

"Our mindset is this will easily be the best team that we have played so far this season," Waterloo coach David Frisell added. "They look like they are very well coached and are very fundamentally sound.  We feel good about what we’ve done the past two weeks but we know that this week will definitely be a step up in caliber of competition and so it’s exciting for us to see where we really stand."

Both coaches are enjoying the sights, sounds, and experiences that come with a more normalized high school football season.

"So far this season has been so refreshing compared to last year," Dunlavy said.

"It has been very nice to feel some sense of normalcy so far this football season," said Frisell. "There are still constant reminders about how we have to be careful or things could fall apart pretty fast, but being able to be back out on the field at the normal time practicing for a normal season in terms of length and not feeling like there’s restrictions placed over every part of our program has been refreshing."
