Every Wednesday during the regular season we will highlight the 8-Player Football game with a spotlight article on WisSports.net. We'll look back at the action and big stories from the previous week, look ahead at the coming week's big match-ups, and select a Star of the Week.

The biggest game on the schedule last week produced the most interesting result, as Wisconsin Heights defeated third-ranked Belmont 20-10. Belmont was last fall's top-ranked 8-player team, while Wisconsin Heights was the number one team from the spring season. Heights got two touchdowns in the final three minutes to score the victory, including a Pick-6 by Hudson Smith. It was one of four interceptions for the Vanguards defense.

There were 11 games on the schedule last Thursday, with some big offensive numbers put up in those contests. In a 65-0 shutout of Cornell, Wabeno/Laona's Connor Taylor had a combined 303 yards of offense and was responsible for six touchdowns. North Crawford's Stephen Munson scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to help the Trojans to a 42-12 victory over Wonewoc/Weston. He finished with 251 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Siren's Nick Webster threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns with 62 yards and a touchdown on the ground in a 49-21 victory against visiting Cornell. Oakfield's Grant Bass threw for four touchdowns and ran for another with 273 total yards of offense.

Friday produced mostly high-scoring blowouts as well, including Gilman's 58-24 decision over Port Edwards. The Pirates led 37-0 after the first quarter and 51-16 at halftime, rolling up more than 400 yards of offense in the game, led by 178 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries by Bryson Keepers. In Clayton's 60-12 win over Winter/Birchwood, ten different players carries the ball as the team racked up 482 yards and seven touchdowns on 38 carries.

One of the best games of the weekend was Saturday, as McDonell Central rallied in the fourth quarter to win 32-28 against Greenwood. Grant Smiskey hit Ben Biskupski for a two-yard touchdown as time expired to provide the game-winner. 

Once again, there are no ranked matchups this week, though certainly some games of note. After losing for the first time in nearly two years, Belmont will look to get back on track as the Braves welcome in Wonewoc/Weston. 

Wisconsin Heights, who beat Belmont last week, will host undefeated Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah this Friday.

Oakfield and North Crawford certainly has the ability to be a high-scoring affair, with some standout offensive players on both sides, including North Crawford's Stephen Munson and Oakfield's Grant Bass. 

One of the best games of the week was a late add, as Luck will travel to 8-player newcomer Thorp. Luck lost a game when Chequamegon had to cancel, while Thorp was open due to a cancelation by Owen-Withee.

Luck's Wyatt Jensen is without a doubt one of the state's top players, and he proved that in a multitude of ways as the Cardinals defeated Washburn 48-28 last Thursday. Jensen had just four carries for 49 yards and a touchdown on offense, as the Cardinals rarely had the ball despite the final score. However, he did score three times on returns, twice on kickoffs and once on a punt return, while adding a team-high 21 tackles on defense.
