RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: September 13-19

Teig Driessen, Seymour boys soccer: Seymour came into last week ranked third in Division 3 in the WSCA poll and went 2-0-1 over the week. Driessen started the week off with a lone goal in a 2-0 win over Shawano. The senior midfielder followed that up with three goals and an assist in a 10-0 win over New London. The Thunder then had a showdown with Division 3, second ranked Notre Dame. Driessen netted a goal as the two top teams tied 2-2.

Maddy Fortune, McFarland girls volleyball: The McFarland girls volleyball team was ranked fourth in Division 2 in the WVCA poll coming into last week. Fortune led the Spartans to an undefeated week, including a first place finish at the Baraboo Invite. First in a 3-1 win over Edgerton, Fortune recorded 39 assists, 14 digs, three blocks, three aces and two kills. The senior setter then had 117 assists, 30 digs, 14 aces, six kills and four blocks as McFarland took home gold at Baraboo.

Nora Gremban, Northland Pines girls cross country: Gremban ran ahead of the pack as she won the Division 2 girls race at the Wausau East Smiley Invitational. Her time of 18:38.9 was nearly two minutes faster than second place in Division 2. Gremban's time was also the fastest, regardless of division, throughout the whole invite.

Mya Nicholson, Janesville Craig girls golf: Nicholson was exceptional as she shot a two-under par 69 at the Parker Invitational this past weekend. Her final score set a school record by four strokes. Nicholson tied Union Grove's Norah Roberts with a two-under par 69, but her 33 on the back nine proved the tiebreaker.

Max Oleson, Highland football: Highland was ranked sixth in the WSN Week 4 Football Coaches Poll in Division and squared off with Division 6, sixth ranked Cashton this past Friday. Oleson was incredible on both sides of the ball, leading the Cardinals to a 27-20 win. From under center, Oleson completed 12 of 17 passes for 271 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, the senior quarterback/defensive back recorded eight tackles and intercepted a ball himself.
