Week 5 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Brillion Lions

Brillion took down previously unbeaten Kiel to remain unblemished in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference on Friday. The Lions methodically pulled away for a 21-0 shutout victory, with a pair of fourth quarter scores erasing any doubt. It was certainly a defensive battle, with neither team reaching 200 yards of offense. Brillion's defense was a touch better, limiting Kiel to just 145 yards of offense. The Lions defensive unit got on the board as well, with a two-yard fumble return touchdown by Alex Heredia providing the final score of the game.

De Pere Redbirds

De Pere opened the season with an ugly loss to Wausau West, but the Redbirds have rattled off four straight wins since that time, including a thrilling 19-15 decision over Bay Port in Week 5. Trailing 15-12 in the closing minutes, the Redbirds scored on a 25-yard pass from Gabe Herman to Jack May with just 32 seconds remaining to go on top. However, Bay Port still had a chance, and a long pass went down to the De Pere one yard line with just six seconds remaining. Bay Port lined up in a power formation but was stuffed short of the goal line, as time ran out on a 19-15 De Pere victory.

Hartford Orioles

We're not sure what was in the halftime speech from Hartford coach John Redders on Friday, but whatever it was, it worked in a big way as his Orioles rallied for a 24-14 deficit to score 35 straight points en route to a 49-32 victory over Cedarburg. Hartford finished with 459 rushing yards in the game, led by 200 with three touchdowns from A.J. Pepin. Both Quinten Hornada and Noah Deibert also had more than 100 rushing yards in the comeback win.

Oconomowoc Raccoons

We knew there was a chance that Muskego's long winning streak could come to an end this year, but I don't think anyone outside Oconomowoc thought it would be in Week 5 against the Raccoons. Oconomowoc was in control most of the way, and a 70-yard touchdown pass from Jack Hellman to Carter Tower with just 41 seconds left sealed a 21-14 victory that snapped Muskego's 41-game winning streak. It was especially surprising since Oconomowoc had lost its last two games to Waukesha West and Kettle Moraine, teams that hadn't exactly been lighting things up this season. Hellman was a difference-maker, throwing for 193 yards and a score while adding 127 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Rhinelander Hodags

Rhinelander is proving it has more than just an amazing mascot going for it, as the Hodags seem to be the class of the Great Northern Conference after going on the road to defeat Medford 28-14. It ended Medford's 14-game winning streak within the league. Rhinelander's defense limited Aiden Gardner to just 92 yards on 23 carries and scored a touchdown on a six-yard fumble return by Cayden Neri in the third quarter. The Hodags' ground game was solid, posting 235 yards and three touchdowns on 44 carries, led by 137 yards from Neri.
