The Packers have announced that Nick Bohl of Oconto Falls High School in Oconto Falls, Wis., has been named the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week.

Bohl, in his fourth year as head coach of the Panthers, has his team out to a 5-0 start this season. Bohl took over the program in 2018 as the team was coming off a 0-9 season. Now for the fourth season in a row, the Panthers will have more wins than their previous year. While the impact that Bohl is having with his team on the field has been evident, off the field the Panthers are also leaving their mark on the community. This past summer, severe storms passed through the Oconto Falls area, leaving a trail of damage and debris in their wake. Bohl and his team saw this as a perfect opportunity to give back and help those in need clean up the mess that was left behind.

“We wanted to start a community service project for our football team this year,” Bohl said. “I originally had a garbage pick-up planned. Then the storm came through toward the end of July and the city crews were struggling because there was a lot of debris and a lot of brush down…we got six to seven trailers going and we spread throughout the town. We were able to get about 30 loads of debris picked up from the storm and the feedback we received from the community was just incredible. Everything was down for about two weeks and the city crews were working hard, but it takes a lot of time when there’s that much brush down. We just kind of jumped at the opportunity and our kids did a great job of working hard…I could not be more proud of them for stepping up to the plate like that.”

Bohl graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 2008. Throughout high school, he participated in football and baseball. He played right guard under Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame Coach Chuck Raykovich. Following high school, Bohl graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 2013 and received his teaching license in 2017 from UW-Stout. Bohl’s coaching career began in 2008, when he coached for the middle school program at Chippewa Falls until 2010. Bohl became an assistant coach for the high school program at his alma mater in 2011, where he continued to advance until he took an assistant coaching position at Oconto Falls in 2017. In 2018, Bohl was named the head coach of the Panthers.

While Bohl is honored to have his name on the Coach of the Week Award, he gives the credit to the entire program.

“Personally, it feels great, obviously, but it’s not a personal award, it’s a team award,” he said. “I’m very lucky to have the coaching staff that we do and the buy-in from them. Their ability to do everything as well with the X’s and O’s of football but along with all the other things that COVID has thrown at us. I can’t thank them enough, they’ve been tremendous. It comes back to the buy-in with the kids and believing in what we’re doing as a staff. When you are coming from a program that has struggled, it was hard the first four years, but all the kids have been tremendous. It takes everybody to turn a program around and start to reap some of the rewards.”

Bohl and his staff oversee a program of 76 players. His assistant staff includes Zach Beyer, Mike Kallies, Jeremy Seelig, Leo Kramer, and Blake VanVooren. In addition to coaching, Bohl is also a marketing and business teacher at Oconto Falls High School. Just hours before learning he had been named Coach of the Week, Bohl’s wife Katie, gave birth to their first child, a son named Jackson.

About the Green Bay Packers High School Coach of the Week Program:

The Green Bay Packers Coach of the Week program supports football outreach efforts by giving high school coaches the recognition they deserve. Nominations can be submitted by 10 a.m. every Monday to Ryan Fencl, Packers football outreach specialist, at coachoftheweek@packers.com. All nominations should include the nominee's name, address, school, phone number and reason he/she is deserving of the award. Continuing with last year’s format, the Packers are seeking coaches to be nominated regardless of their teams’ on-field performance. Rather, the nominee could be honored for how they have turned programs around, how the team has impacted the community, or how the coach impacts the players and their families.
