Bug Tussel Wireless Triple Threat Athlete of the Week: Jeremy Hensel, Suring

The Bug Tussel Wireless Triple Threat Athlete of the Week is an honor given on WisSports.net to the top senior boys and girls three-sport athletes in the state. Players are recognized each week on WSN, with the a boys and girls winner of the Pat Richter Award at the end of the season to the best three-sport athlete of the year.

The goal and mission of Bug Tussel Wireless is to level the playing field for rural residents despite where they may live. Whether you work from home, your office is downtown or you are manning the family farm, they believe residents should be connected without having to compromise speed, price, quality, service or the environment.

Name: Jeremy Hensel

High School: Suring High School

Grade: Senior

Football Honors: Through the first five games of the 2021 season, Hensel led Suring in passing yards (139) and ranked second in rushing yards (241) ... He ran for three touchdowns in a victory over Wausaukee ... A quarterback and linebacker for coach Mitch Taylor and the Eagles, Hensel also ranks second on the team in tackles.

Basketball Honors: Enters senior season as a two-year varsity performer for Suring ... Named as the team Defensive Player of the Year by coach Chris Geniesse following last season as the Eagles finished 7-11.  

Track & Field Honors: Cleared 12 feet, six inches in the pole vault as a junior to win the WIAA Division 3 Rosholt Sectional championship ... Advanced to the WIAA State Meet and finished 12th in the pole vault last spring, clearing 12 feet.

Favorite Sport: "I don't have a favorite sport. I personally love all of them. I always give 110 percent in all my sports, trying to get my team a win/victory. If I had to choose, football has to be my favorite."

Best Part of High School Sports: "The best part of my high school sports career has to be meeting new people. Also, getting coached by other coaches along the way."

Best Advice from a High School Coach: "Always keep your head up. There is always another race. There is always another play. There’s always another game. Until there’s not, and once it’s over it’s done, so always give 110 percent till that last whistle blows.”

Most Memorable Moment in High School Sports: "The most memorable part of my high school career so far was placing first at my track sectional meet and qualifying for state."

Best Part of Playing Three Sports: "The best part is there is never time off and never time to get into trouble."

Toughest Part of Playing Three Sports: "The worst part about playing three sports is there is almost no time to hang out with friends and family."

Favorite Opponent: "My favorite individual opponent had to be Jason Berube from Three lakes. He is a senior this year as well and he's a really good pole vaulter."

Favorite Professional Teams: "My favorite professional team for basketball has to be the Milwalkee Bucks. My favorite professional football team is the Chicago Bears mostly because my family is all from Chicago."

Favorite Professional Athlete: "Khalil Mack of the Chicago Bears has to be my favorite professional athlete because of the way he impacts kids and adults. He also is a really aggressive player on the field. He constantly inspires me to be more aggressive in every sport."

Favorite College Teams: "I don't really pay much attention to college sports. It's not that I don't like college sports, it’s just that it’s the same thing as professional sports."

Toughest Individual You’ve Competed Against: Karson Bins, Crivitz

Biggest Challenge of COVID-19: "The biggest challenge of COVID-19 was trying to compete with masks on>"

Most Admired High School Teammate: "My most admired high school teammate has to be Mitch Stegeman. He was always helping us underclassmen become better. He still comes back from college to help us pole vaulters out."

College Plans: "Iplan on going to UW-Eau Claire to continue my education and vault with Mitch Stegeman." 

I Find it Relaxing to: "I find it relaxing to sit on a boat/kayak with a pole in my hand fishing."

Favorite TV show: "My favorite TV show has to be All American, because it really shows how a team should work together."

Favorite Movie: My favorite movie has to be Greater. It shows that you can get anything you want if you put your mind to it and focus on getting your goals accomplished."

Favorite Musical Artists: "I don’t know musical artists. I just to listen to it."

Favorite Subject: Math

Favorite Restaurant: Red Lobster

Other Family Members: "I had two brothers, Justin Hensel passed away when I was in my sophomore year. Losing him really brought me down, but knowing he was gone really pushed me to become as good as he was. My other brother Jason Hensel is an electrician and is in college. My Two sisters Barbra Ann Hensel and Jessica Hensel are both working and living on their own and doing really well. All my siblings were really athletic back when they were in high school. All four of them are older than me so I really look up to all of them. The closest sibling I have to my age is 30 and that is Jessica."
