Week 8 WisSports.net Team of the Week Nominees

Lake Mills L-Cats

Three teams entered Week 8 tied atop the Capitol Conference standings, including Lake Mills and Lodi. Trailing 20-7 at halftime, Lake Mills would rally to defeat Lodi 27-20 and remain in a share of the league lead with Columbus. Caden Belling threw two touchdowns during the comeback and finished with three overall, completing 23-of-29 passes for 160 yards. Ben Buchholtz added a nine-yard touchdown plunge in the fourth quarter to give the L-Cats some breathing room. Lake Mills' defense limited Lodi to just 170 yards of offense in the game.

Mosinee Indians

Mosinee assured itself at least a share of the Great Northern Conference title with a 41-14 dominating victory over Medford. Quarterback Trevor Garski continued his hot play, completing 27-of-35 passes for 327 yards with six touchdown passes, including five in the first half as the Indians built a 35-8 halftime advantage. Mosinee can wrap up an outright league title this week against Antigo.

Nicolet Knights

Nicolet secured just the second playoff appearance in school history (not counting last year's abbreviated postseason) and first since 1989 with a 43-7 victory over West Bend East last week. Ben Ott threw for 188 yards with three touchdowns plus two scores on the ground, Braeden Ott ran for 160 yards, and Cole Trimborn accounted for three total touchdowns as the Knights dominated the Suns.

Potosi/Cassville Chieftains

River Ridge led Potosi/Cassville 12-0 less than three minutes into the game thanks to a 77-yard kickoff return touchdown and 85-yard scoring run, but Potosi/Cassville stayed the course and pulled ahead 14-12 at halftime. The co-op program would pull away with a big third quarter and then hold on for dear life in the fourth as Potosi/Cassville won 30-26 to forge a three-way tie atop the Six Rivers with River Ridge and Black Hawk/Warren (IL). Levi Groom threw a pair of touchdowns to Robby Roe while Ashton Spitzack and Rom Friederick combined for 255 yards and two scores on the ground.

Whitefish Bay Blue Dukes

Whitefish Bay trailed Hartford 14-7 into the fourth quarter, but a Luke Wells to Jack Nau touchdown tied things up early in the period and Dominic Bartolone scampered 66 yards for a touchdown with 1:37 remaining as the Blue Dukes rallied for a 21-14 victory. The win put Whitefish Bay alone in first place in the North Shore Conference with a home game against Slinger awaiting in Week 9.
