Prep Props - Week 9

Prep Props is our weekly look at the best individual statistical performances in the state, with the leaders in rushing yards, passing yards, and receiving yards. Prep Props is published every Monday morning, and for players to be included, coaches must enter game stats by 8 am on Monday.

Week 9 Rushing Leaders

Rhinelander topped Ashland 36-18 on Friday to finish the season 8-1 and wrap up second place in the Great Northern Conference. Senior running back Cayden Neri continued his strong season, rushing 32 times for 327 yards with four touchdowns. Two of those scores came in the first quarter to help the Hodags to a 24-0 halftime advantage.

Week 9 Passing Leaders

Wittenberg-Birnamwood quarterback Ben Wesolowski set a new state record with nine touchdown passes as the Chargers beat an overmatched Nekoosa team 79-8. Six of those scoring throws came in the first half when Wittenberg-Birnamwood amassed a 58-0 lead, with two coming in the fourth quarter. He completed 18-of-29 passes for 522 yards in the game, adding four carries for 78 yards and two more scores as he accounted for all 11 Chargers touchdowns. He also had seven tackles and an interception on defense.

Week 9 Receiving Leaders

In the same game that Ben Wesolowski set a new state record for touchdown passes in a game, teammate Kaden Schmidt of Wittenberg-Birnamwood set a new state record with seven touchdown receptions as the Chargers topped Nekoosa 79-8. Schmidt caught 11 passes in the contest for 301 yards.
