WisSports.net Level 1 Player of the Week Nominees

Karson Bowe, Chippewa Falls

Fifth-seeded Chippewa Falls went on the road and defeated fourth-seeded Stevens Point 22-21 in overtime in Level 1 of the Division 1 WIAA playoffs last Friday. The Cardinals trailed in the fourth quarter, but Karson Bowe scored on an eight-yard run and the two-point conversion tied the game. In the overtime period, Stevens Point scored on its possession to go up 21-14, but ChiHi responded quickly. On the team's first play, Bowe caught a 25-yard touchdown from Brayden Warwick, and head coach Chuck Raykovich chose to go for the win. Bowe converted the two-point run as Chippewa Falls scored a walk-off 22-21 victory. Bowwe finished with 12 carries for a team-high 54 yards with a score, adding three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Aaron Burkman, Grantsburg

Grantsburg produced one of the biggest upsets of Level 1, handing second-seeded Augusta its first loss of the year, 14-12. It was a defensive battle that Augusta led 12-8 into the fourth quarter, but quarterback Aaron Burkman scampered in from 13 yards out for what proved to be the game-winning touchdown with just over eight minutes remaining. Burkman carried the ball eight times for 48 yards and a touchdown in the game, also completing 10-of-19 passes for 103 yards. He also had six tackles and an interception on defense, handled the punting duties, and returned two punts for 38 yards.

Daniel Hornacek, Notre Dame

Notre Dame sure didn't play like the lower-seeded road team on Friday night, defeating Fox Valley Lutheran 39-14. Senior running back Daniel Hornacek continued his strong season with a 348-yard rushing performance on 43 carries, scoring four touchdowns as the Tritons' ground game controlled things. They advance to take on Menasha in Level 2.

Cooper Nichols, Stanley-Boyd

Stanley-Boyd went on the road to defeat fourth-seeded Arcadia 35-18 in a Division 5 contest on Friday. Orioles senior Cooper Nichols scored via a rush, reception, and kick return in a well-rounded performance. After Arcadia opened the scoring in the first quarter, Nichols returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards to put Stanley-Boyd on top 7-6. With the Orioles trailing 12-7 at halftime, Nichols ran for a five-yard touchdown and caught a 36-yarder in the third quarter as Stanley-Boyd grabbed a lead it would not relinquish. He finished with 10 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown, three catches for 43 yards and a touchdown, and a pair of kick returns for a total of 116 yards with a score.

Braeden Ott, Nicolet

Nicolet scored its first-ever playoff victory with a 48-6 blowout of Milwaukee King in Level 1 of the WIAA postseason. The Knights did not complete a pass in the game, relying on a strong rushing attack that put up more than 500 yards. Braeden Ott did most of the damage, carrying the ball 22 times for 350 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 15.9 yards per carry. He also had three tackles and a forced fumble on defense.
