RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: November 15-21

Myles Burkett, Franklin football: Burkett capped off a great prep career winning a state championship on the field that he'll suit up collegiately for next season. This season's WSN Dave Krieg award winner completed 16 of 23 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns for the Sabres in the 38-17 win over Sun Prairie. A plethora of Sabres were electric, including skill position players Tanner Rivard, Reese Osgood and Keaton Arendt. Burkett did a great job of getting the ball to the offensive weapons, winning Franklin's first state title since 2006.

Ben Farnsworth, Waunakee football: Farnsworth changed the momentum, set a state record and scored a touchdown all in one Friday in the Division 2 State Football Championship. Homestead scored with 2:12 left in the first half to tie the Warriors 7-7, lining up the for ensuing kickoff. 97 yards later, Farnsworth returned the kickoff for a score to put Waunakee back up before they eventually won 33-21. The senior receiver and returner added 32 receiving yards and 14 punt return yard to his state record for longest touchdown.

Carson Hansen, Pewaukee football: Pewaukee squeaked out the first football title in its first state appearance in a 15-6 win over Rice Lake. Hansen not only scored both of the Pirate's touchdowns, but led the offense all day. With an unconventional quarterback number of 34, Hansen passed for 69 yards and rushed for 98 and two scores on the day. Defensively, he added three tackles.

Calvin Hargrove, Aquinas football: Aquinas captured the WIAA Division 5 State Championship by the slightest of margins, edging out Mayville 28-26. Hargrove did it on both sides of the ball to lead the Blugolds. Offensively, the junior running back/linebacker powered in from one yard out to put Aquinas up 28-20 with 11:47 left. Mayville then scored with 1:41 left in the game and had to line up for the two point conversion. Hargrove was in on the tackle that stopped Mayville's Blake Schraufnagel from finding the end zone. Hargrove finished with nine tackles and an interception on defense.

Brent Jeske, Colby football: Jeske found the end zone three times in the first half as Colby knocked off Saint Mary's Springs 22-7 in the Division 6 State Championship. The senior signal caller did most of his damage with his legs in the game, rushing 27 times for 128 yards and two scores. Thirty seconds into the second quarter, he scooped up a fumble and returned it 63 yards for another score. Jeske also threw for 40 yards and added four tackles defensively to his stat line.
