RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: November 22-28

Mallory Hoitink, Slinger girls basketball: Slinger competed in both the Brookfield Central and Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving tournaments this past weekend and Hoitink guided her squad to two wins. First at the Brookfield Central Tournament, she scored 17 points and added three steals as the Owls beat Watertown 51-39. Hoitink, who owns a number of Division 1 offers, then had a game high 32 points in a 72-61 win over Mukwonago at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic.

Jaquan Johnson, Pius XI Catholic boys basketball: Johnson filled the stat sheet in Pius XI Catholic's two wins this past week. Fist in an 87-38 win over Messmer, the 5'10" sophomore scored a game high 26 points. Johnson followed it by tallying 35 points, 10 steals, eight rebounds and six assists in a 76-59 win over Racine Horlick at the Oak Creek Autism Showcase.

Emily LaChapell, Appleton East girls basketball: LaChapell was brilliant this past week as Appleton East picked up a pair of impressive and dominating wins. The Patriots, ranked number one in the WSN Division 1 preseason poll, squared off with the top ranked team in Division 2, Notre Dame. LaChapell had 22 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks in a 63-45 win over the Tritons. The Marquette commit then had 16 points in the Patriot's 65-49 win over Division 1, second ranked Verona, at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic.

Marie Outlay, Sun Prairie girls basketball: Outlay has been lethal from beyond the arc to start the season for the Sun Prairie team. To start off last week, she scored 16 points and added three rebounds in a 64-49 win over Madison La Follette. She then was exceptional in a 50-42 overtime win over Oak Creek at the Kettle Moraine Thanksgiving Classic. The 5'10" guard had a game high 26 points and eight three pointers. None were as important as her half court heave at the end of regulation that sent the game to overtime.

Cody Schmitz, G-E-T boys basketball: G-E-T only played one game in the opening week of boys basketball, but Schmitz made some noise in that game. On the opening night of the boys season, Schmitz was on fire. The sophomore guard scored a school record 61 points as G-E-T beat Sparta 82-67. Schmitz finished 20 of 24 from the free throw line and knocked down seven shots from behind the three point line.
