RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: December 20-26

Rex Blaine, Benton boys basketball: The Benton boys basketball team is off to a hot start this season, going 7-1 entering the holiday season. Blaine has been the catalyst for the hot start. Last week the Zephyrs took down Highland 70-58 behind Blaine's great night. He finished with 38 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and three steals. The 6'4" junior finished six of eight from beyond the arc.

Will Boser, Eau Claire Memorial boys basketball: Boser was efficient on the hardwood as Eau Claire Memorial beat River Falls 50-38 to improve to 7-0 on the 2021-22 season. Boser led the way for the Old Abes, finishing with a team high 22 points. The 6'6" senior shot 10 of 15 from the field while adding three rebounds and two steals. Memorial is currently ranked third in the Division 1 WSN Coaches Poll.

Jorey Buwalda, Randolph girls basketball: The Randolph girls basketball team is the top ranked team in Division 5 in the WSN Girls Basketball Coaches Poll. Buwalda led the Rockets to a pair of wins this past week while surpassing a career milestone. In the 57-42 win over Fall River, Buwalda finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. The 6'0" junior then had 21 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and three blocks in the 52-39 win over Columbus. In the victory, Buwalda scored her 1,000th career point, just halfway through her junior season.

Grace Lomen, Catholic Memorial girls basketball: Lomen had a career night as she led Catholic Memorial to a 79-78 win over Oconomowoc last week. The UW-Parkside commit finished with a career high 37 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and three blocks. Lomen was fouled as time expired and stepped to the free throw line to clinch the win. She made the free throw line, winning the game for the Crusaders. On her career night, Lomen surpassed 1,000 career points.

Casey Verhagen, Sheboygan Lutheran boys basketball: Sheboygan Lutheran is one of the top small school teams in the state and Verhagen is a big reason why. The senior point guard put up back to back 30 point performances in a pair of wins last week. Starting with a 65-64 win over Sheboygan Christian, Verhagen logged 34 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists. He followed that up with 39 points, six steals and three assists in a 97-71 win over Kingdom Prep Lutheran. The Northern Michigan commit went seven of nine from three point land in the win.
