Updated Football State Record Book following 2021 season

The 2021 high school football season was another one for the record books, as a number of players and teams etched their names in history.

Kevin Patrowsky keeps the State Record Book for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and has provided an updated 68-page document that is chock full of great information. Also, he's again added on to the 8-Man Football Record Book, which continues to grow. For any updates, additions, or corrections to the Record Book, please contact Kevin Patrowsky.

Below are some of the noteworthy additions to the Record Book from 2021.

2021 Highlighted ADDITIONS TO 11-PLAYER STATE RECORD BOOK

Passing Updates

  • Wittenberg-Birnamwood's Ben Wesolowski set a new state record with nine touchdown passes in a 79-8 win over Nekoosa in Week 9, as he also threw for 522 yards, which is 12th in state single-game history. He also ran for two touchdowns in the game, as his 11 combined all-purpose touchdowns responsible for set a new state record.
  • Mosinee's Trevor Garski completed all 17 of his passes in a September win over Hayward, setting a new state record for most attempts without an incompletion.
  • Maddox Allen of Cumberland was 16-for-16 in a game earlier this year, which is the second most attempts without an incompletion. Allen had 6,275 passing yards in his career, placing him in the top 30, while his 70 career passing touchdowns is in the top 20. Allen holds the career passing percentage record (minimum 500 attempts) with a mark of 73.16%.
  • Franklin's Myles Burkett finished with 3,427 yards in leading the Sabers to a Division 1 state title, as his yardage is tied for eighth in state history. Burkett's 36 touchdowns is tied for 14th.
  • Burkett's 6,483 career passing yards is in the top 25.
  • Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian's Robby Michael threw for 39 touchdowns this year, which is tied for tenth. Michael had 2,596 passing yards and 1,540 rushing yards this season, making his 4,136 combined passing & rushing yards the fifth-most in state history. His combined 57 passing and rushing touchdowns is fourth.
  • Michael finished with 96 career passing touchdowns, the most in state history. He threw for 7,483 yards in his career, which places him ninth. Michael had a combined 10,216 passing and rushing yards (7,483 passing, 2,733 rushing), which is the third-most in state history. His 133 combined passing and rushing scores is tied for third.
  • Mason Keyes of DeForest holds the top mark for fewest interceptions thrown in a season with at least 175 attempts, as he threw just one pick in 195 attempts.

Rushing Updates

  • Cambridge senior running back Trey Colts had more than one-third of his 2021 season yards in one game, going for 444 with six touchdowns on just 20 carries in a 53-7 win over Dodgeland. That is the seventh-most in state history.
  • Durand's Simon Bauer ran for 2,805 yards on 314 carries with 43 touchdowns. His rushing touchdowns is tied for second in state history while his yardage total is eighth. He went over 300 yards in a game three times, which is tied for third-most in state history. His 13 games of at least 100 yards is tied for fourth.
  • Pacelli's Bryce Cashin went for 5,281 career rushing yards, a mark that places him 15th. His 6,682 all-purpose yards (5,281 rushing, 652 receiving, 196 punt return, 553 kick return) is second-most in state history.

Receiving Updates

  • Wittenberg-Birnamwood wide receiver Kaden Schmidt caught 11 passes for 301 yards with seven touchdowns in a victory over Nekoosa, breaking the state record for most receiving touchdowns in a game. His yardage total is 11th.
  • Menominee Indian's Bryce Dixon also made the top 20 in single-game receiving yards with 288 on eight catches.
  • Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian's Casey Verhagen set a new state record with 21 receptions, going for 222 yards and two touchdowns in a Level 2 loss to Denmark. Verhagen's 160 career receptions are in the top 20.
  • Cedar Grove-Belgium's Sam Peiffer hauled in 96 catches this year, tying him for ninth on the single-season list. His 1,404 receiving yards is in the top 15. Peiffer moved into the top 30 in career receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
  • Aquinas' Quinn Miskowski set a new state record for highest yards per catch with a minimum of 40 receptions, as he averaged 26 yards per reception (40 catches, 1,041 yards).
  • Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian wideout Colin Girdaukas, who set a new state single-game receiving yards record in 2020, finished his career with 188 receptions, which is eighth all-time. His 3,339 receiving yards is third, and his 48 career receiving touchdowns is second.
  • Shawano's Elliott Lowney had 2,875 receiving yards in his career, which is tenth, and his 150 receptions is in the top 30.

Scoring Updates

  • Thanks to 43 rushing touchdowns and 21, two-point conversions, Durand's Simon Bauer scored 300 points this year, which is the fifth-most in state history. His 21, two-point conversions is third in state history. His 566 career points is 13th.
  • On three different occasions in 2021, Wauwatosa West's Elandis Peete accounted for four, two-point conversions, tying a state record each time.
  • South Milwaukee's Aahlijah Jones and Aquinas' Collin Conzemius returned four kickoffs for touchdowns, tying a state record.

Kicking Updates

  • Franklin's Cooper Mueller made 77 extra points this season, tying him for fourth-most in state history. His 89 points overall (77 extra points and four field goals) is tied for fifth.

Punting Updates

  • Richland Center's Bryce Hillers averaged 45.9 yards per punt this year, which is fourth-most in state history.

Defense Updates

  • Turner's Brent Hoppe was credited with 42 tackles for loss, which is second most in state history. Martin Luther's Sam Gabler had 35 tackles for loss, which is fifth.
  • Fond du Lac's Armond Wempner had five sacks in a game, tying a state record.

Team Updates

  • Muskego saw its winning streak come to an end at 41 games, which is eighth-longest in state history.
  • Coleman rushed for 4,928 yards as a team, which is seventh-most in state history.
  • Franklin scored 622 this season, tying the Sabers for 18th all-time.

2021 ADDITIONS TO 8-PLAYER STATE RECORD BOOK

With the current incarnation of 8-Player Football still being very young, there were one again a significant number of additions to the Record Book this season. We will highlight some of the more prominent additions below.

  • Saint Mary Catholic quarterback Danny Griffith connected on seven touchdown passes in a game, which ties him for fourth.
  • Newman Catholic's Conner Krach had 2,396 passing yards this year, which is fifth all-time. His 39 touchdown passes is third.
  • Luck's Wyatt Jensen ran for 430 yards and eight touchdowns in a game earlier this season, with his yardage the sixth-most in state history for 8-player football and his touchdown total tied for second. Jensen finished with 326 points overall (47 touchdowns, 22, two-point conversions), which is second-most in state history.
  • Jensen's 2,453 rushing yards this year ties for second all-time, as does his 43 career rushing touchdowns.
  • With 4,280 career rushing yards, Jensen is now the top rusher in 8-player state history with a record 77 career rushing scores. His 616 career points is also a state best. He is third in career tackles with 332.
  • Atticus Johnson of Saint Mary Catholic caught five touchdown passes in a game, which is tied for second in state history.
  • Adam Seeber of Wabeno/Laona hauled in 65 receptions, which is sixth for a single-season.
  • Ethan Campbell of Saint Mary Catholic's 16 touchdown catches is tied for fourth. Campbell tied a state record with four, two-point conversions in one game.
  • Bruce's Chris Brockman scored 10 touchdowns in a 76-52 win over Alma Center Lincoln, setting a new state record. His eight rushing touchdowns tied a state record, as he also caught two scores.
  • Cooper Diedrich of Athens accounted for 246 points (36 touchdowns, 15, two-point conversions), which is third in a single-season. Diedrich also set a new record with a 19.6 yards per carry average (min. 100 rushing yards).
  • Matthew Hamilton of Newman Catholic booted 59 extra points this year, which is second.
  • Hudson Smith of Wisconsin Heights set a new record with four interception return touchdowns. Athens' Cooper Diedrich is now second with three from this past season.
  • Will Watrin of South Shore set new state records with 250 kick return yards and three kickoff return touchdowns in a single game during a loss to Mellen. He also set a record with seven kick return touchdowns on the season.
  • Hunter Cronauer of Wabeno/Laona tied the state record with 162 tackles in the 2021 season and also tied the state record with 19 sacks. He set a new state record with 46 tackles for loss. Just a junior, he now holds the career record for sacks (34) and tackles for loss (65).
