RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: January 3-9

Mitchell McCarty, Campbellsport boys basketball: Campbellsport is one of the few remaining unbeaten boys teams in the state and McCarty is a huge reason why. The 6'5" junior has scored and rebounded at a high rate and continued that in three wins last week. In a 66-57 win over Berlin, he only tallied four points but had 11 rebounds. In the following 57-36 win over West Bend East, McCarty had 22 points and 10 rebounds. He finished the week with 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 65-55 win over Omro.

Emma Mommsen, Menomonie girls basketball: Menomonie sits atop the Big Rivers standings thanks in part to Mommsen and her play so far this year. Last week she recorded a pair of double-doubles in two wins for the Mustangs. First in a 58-13 blowout of Wausau East, the Concordia-St. Paul commit had 19 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. Mommsen followed that up with 20 points, ten rebounds and another block in a 72-40 win over River Falls.

Kamy Peppler, Hortonville girls basketball: Peppler was incredible last week for the Polar Bears as they picked up two very important FVA Conference victories. Starting with an 85-28 win over Appleton West, the UW-Milwaukee commit had ten points, six assists, six steals and three rebounds. Hortonville then squared off with Appleton East, pitting the top two ranked teams in the Division 1 WSN Coaches Poll. Hortonville came away with an 81-66 win over East as Peppler was the best player on the court. She finished with 32 points, five assists and two steals.

Nicolar Rivera, Stoughton wrestling: Rivera is one of, if not the best wrestler in the state of Wisconsin, having won two state championships and a runner-up finish in his first three years in school. This past weekend, Rivera competed at the Cheesehead Invitational where he took home the title in the 126 pound weight class. To do so, he defeated Nathaneal Jesuroga of Southeast Polk in the championship bout. Jesuroga is the top ranked wrestler in the nation at 126 pounds. Rivera's upset victory earned him the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the entire tournament.

Seth Trimble, Menomonee Falls boys basketball: Menomonee Falls secured three wins this past week and Trimble filled the stat sheet in the process. The North Carolina commit began the week with 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and a steal and block in a 71-63 win over Brookfield East. Trimble then just missed his career high by scoring 41 points while adding eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a 79-74 win over Wauwatosa West. Trimble, the top ranked player in the Class of 2022 by WSN, finished the week with 34 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks in a 76-68 win over Arrowhead.
