The highly anticipated non-conference meeting between two of the best in the state did not disappoint.

Kettle Moraine ended the game on a 16-6 run and defeated Pewaukee, 74-67, on Tuesday.

The host Lasers, ranked No. 2 in the Division 1 WSN Coaches Poll, held a 41-29 halftime lead. Pewaukee, ranked No. 3 in the Division 3 WSN Coaches Poll, stormed back, going on a 22-9 run to open the half, to take a 51-50 lead with 10:42 remaining.

The teams traded leads and Kettle Moraine held a 64-61 lead after a basket by junior wing Grace Grocholski, an Arizona State commit, which was followed up by a three-pointer by Pewaukee freshman Amy Terrian which tied the game at 64. Grocholski answered by scoring the next four points for the Lasers.

Senior guard Lily Randgaard, a Western Illinois signee, hit a pair from the free throw line to put the Lasers up six. Pewaukee got back within three with an and-1 by Terrian but Kettle Moraine held on for the win.

Grocholski scored a team-high 25 points for the Lasers. Randgaard and junior guard Braelyn Torres also had big games for coach Todd Hansen and the Lasers. Randgaard finished with 19 points and Torres added 13.

Terrian scored a game-high 30 points for Pewaukee. The 30 points are also the most she has scored in a game in her young career. Senior wing Sarah Newcomer, a Northern Michigan signee, contributed 14 points for coach Jim Reuter and the Pirates.

UW-Green Bay assistant coach Sarah Bronk was in attendance and the non-conference matchup.

Kettle Moraine improves to 13-2 on the season, handing Pewaukee, which is also 13-2 overall, its second loss of the season. Each has a loss to defending Division 2 state champion Notre Dame, which is ranked No. 2 in the D2 WSN Coaches Poll.

The Lasers' next three games are against ranked opponents, two in Classic Eight play Catholic Memorial (D3 #7) and Arrowhead (D1 #3), and a non-conference meeting versus Brookfield East (D1 #4).

Pewaukee, which has played seven non-conference games against ranked opponents, is 5-2 in those games, including wins over Division 1 teams Brookfield East (D1 #4), Germantown (D1 #9), and De Pere (D1 #10). That's to go along with playing in the Woodland West, which has had three other teams ranked in the top 10 this season.
