WisSports.net Game of the Week

The WisSports.net Game of the Week allows you, the fans, to pick what you feel is the biggest high school basketball game in the state. The game will be featured on WisSports.net and will have Mark Miller in attendance if a boys' game wins and Norbert Durst at the contest if a girls' game wins the voting. 

Fans can vote once per day, and voting goes through Wednesday at 2 pm.

Girls Games

Milwaukee King (10-2, 4-0 in Milwaukee City Gold) at D3 No. 4 Milwaukee School of Languages (10-3, 4-1 in Milwaukee City Gold), 2:15 p.m. on Saturday at Al McGuire Center 
Milwaukee King has won its last 32 Milwaukee City Gold contests, which includes a 61-58 win over Milwaukee School of Languages on December 14. Leading the way for King is 6-0 junior Imani Warren who averages 15.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per game. Other top players for coach Anthony Young and the Lady Generals include 6-1 senior Aniya White and 6-1 junior Lauryn Hunt who average 9.9 and 7.6 points per game, respectively. Another notable player is 6-0 senior Alexis Young who contributes 5.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per contest. MSL's squad is highlighted by 5-8 senior point guard Ja'Cia Cunningham, a Chicago State signee, who averages 22.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 5.7 steals per game. Sophomore forward Norriah Broomfield (6-0) averages 16.1 points and 13.2 rebounds per contest and 5-7 senior guard Jayla Butler, a Bellarmine University signee, contributes 11.6 points and 4.8 steals per game for co-head coaches Alina and John Cunningham and the Hawks. 

Verona (11-3, 8-2 in Big 8) at Janesville Craig (11-4, 9-1 in Big 8), 7:15 p.m. on Friday 
Verona is coming off a big 47-45 win over Sun Prairie (D1 #7) which knocked the Cardinals out of first place in the Big Eight and kept the Wildcats one game behind Janesville Craig. The first time these teams met was on December 3, Janesville Craig earned a 73-68 victory. Verona is led by juniors Paige Lambe (6-2) and Megan Murphy (5-7) who each average over 12 points per game. Sophomore Reagan Briggs (5-9) contributes just under 12 points per contest for coach Angie Murphy and the Wildcats. Janesville Craig is leading the Big Eight after a loss against Madison La Follette was changed to a forfeit win due to an ineligible player competing in that game for La Follette. Highlighting the Cougars' roster are junior guard Ellie Magestro Kennedy, a 5-8 IUPUI commit, and senior guard Kate Huml, a 5-8 UW-Oshkosh commit, who average 18.2 and 17.4 points per game, respectively. Huml also leads the team with 3.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Another top player for coach Kerry Storbakken and the Cougars is sophomore wing Mya Nicholson (5-10) who tallies 14.1 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest. 

D4 No. 3 Osseo-Fairchild (15-1, 8-1 in Cloverbelt West) at D5 No. 3 McDonell Central (13-2, 8-1 in Cloverbelt West), 7:30 p.m. on Friday 
The teams are currently tied atop the Cloverbelt West standings. Osseo-Fairchild won the first meeting, 45-38, on December 16. The Thunder's lone loss was against Cadott, 66-61, last week. Senior Brooke McCune, a 5-9 wing, leads the way for the Thunder, averaging 17.4 points per game. Other top contributors for coach Tera Simpson and the Thunder include junior guard Eleice Dahl (5-10) and senior Lacey Frase (5-9) who average 9.9 and 8.6 points per contest, respectively. McDonell Central has won its last eight games, including a 59-44 victory against Neillsville last week. Senior guard Lauryn Deetz (5-4) highlights the team, averaging 17.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game which both lead the team. Other top players for coach Don Cooper and the Macks include sophomore guard Emily Cooper (5-8) and junior wing Marley Hughes (5-9) who tally 11.2 and 8.9 points per game, respectively. 

Boys Games

Madison East (8-4, 6-3 in Big Eight) at D1 No. 8 Madison La Follette (9-3, 8-2 in Big Eight), 7:15 p.m. on Thursday
The rivalry between the two eastside schools in Madison figures to be red-hot as the Purgolders travel to La Follette looking to inch closer to the top of the Big Eight Conference standings. Middleton is in first place with one league loss, followed by La Follette with two and East with three. Coach Matt Miota's East squad is led by senior Massi Malterer (6-1), who leads the league in scoring at a robust 25.2 points per game. Impressive freshman Clevon Easton Jr. (6-4) also is having a big season for East as he is averaging 15.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg and 3.1 apg. La Follette is led by senior forward Camron Yahnke (15.3 ppg), junior point guard Arhman Lewis (14.7 ppg) and sophomore wing Quinton Lomack (12.2 ppg). Coach Curtrel Robinson's Lancers defeated East 81-71 in late December. 

D5 No. 10 Lourdes Academy (9-4, 5-1 in Trailways East) at Oakfield (11-3, 6-0 in Trailways East), 7:15 p.m. on Thursday
Oakfield stunned defending WIAA Division 4 state champion Lourdes Academy 63-53 in Oshkosh on December 5. The loss snapped a 52-game league winning streak for the five-time defending conference champion Knights. Coach Dennis Ruedinger's squad will look to pull even with Oakfield in the Trailways East Conference standings behind the strong all-around play of senior guards Dominic Kane (15.1 ppg) and Jack Seibold (12.0 ppg), and the emerging scoring skills of senior forward Malith Liabwell (14.3 ppg) and sophomore JJ McKellips (10.3 ppg). Oakfield is having a big season under rookie coach Jason Collien. Oakfield has won 11 of 14 games and is led by seniors Grant Bass (14.2 ppg) and Bart Bijl (12.0 ppg).
