Scruggs and LaChappel have career nights

Sidney Scruggs, 5-5, sr., Milwaukee Riverside -- Scruggs scored a school-record 52 points in the Tigers' 105-19 win over Milwaukee Marshall/Young Coggs on Tuesday. She also recorded a triple-double by tallying 13 rebounds and 10 steals to go along with seven assists. The 52-point performance puts her in a tie for 16th on the state's all-time single-game scoring list in girls basketball. Scruggs, ranked No. 23 in the class of 2022 by WisSports.net, is averaging 20.7 points per game for coach Kristopher Teague and the Tigers, 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the Milwaukee City Gold.  

Emily LaChapell, 5-11, sr., Appleton East --  LaChapell, the top-ranked player in the class of 2022 by WSN, scored a school-record 50 points in Friday's 86-58 win over crosstown rival Appleton West. She is the fourth player to score at least 50 points in a game this season and is tied for 27th on the all-time single-game scoring list. LaChapell is the 21st player in state history to score at least 50 points in a game (35 total performances). The Marquette signee is averaging 21.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 2.1 steals per game for coach and father Joe LaChapell and the Patriots, 15-3 overall and 10-2 in the FVA, ranked No. 6 in the D1 WSN Coaches Poll. 

Other performances of 35 or more points last week

Tieryn Plasch, 5-7, jr., Northwestern -- Plasch netted a school-record 42 points in the Tigers' 65-54 loss to Visitation, Minn., last Monday. Three days later, she scored her 1,000th career point in a 65-61 victory versus Ashland. Plasch is averaging 24.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 3.2 steals per game for coach Paul Eberhardt and the Tigers, 11-5 overall and 8-3 in the Heart O'North. 

Allie Ziebell, 6-0, soph., Neenah -- Ziebell, who holds a number of NCAA Division I offers, scored 39 points in the Rockets' 84-68 loss to Kaukauna on Tuesday. She also tallied eight rebounds, three assists, five steals, and a block in the contest. This is Ziebell's sixth game of at least 30 points and leads the state with 29.6 points per game. She is also averaging 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.7 steals per contest for coach Andy Braunel and the Rockets, 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the FVA, ranked No. 5 in the latest Division 1 WSN Coaches Poll. 

Lindsay Steien, 5-9, jr., Blair-Taylor -- Steien scored 36 points in the Rockets' 83-49 win over New Lisbon last Monday. She also finished with six rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Steien is third in the state in scoring with 27.8 points per game to go along with 7.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 3.6 steals per for coach Jesse Lien and the Wildcats, 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the Dairyland Large, ranked No. 6 in the Division 5 WisSports.net Coaches Poll. 

Megan Clary, 5-8, sr., Wisconsin Rapids -- Clary scored a school-record 36 points in Friday's 60-53 victory over Marshfield. Clary is averaging 22.6 points per game for coach Mitch Wolding and the Red Raiders, 9-6 overall and 7-1 in the Wisconsin Valley. 

Bree Rock, 5-6., sr., North Fond du Lac -- Rock tallied a career-best 35 points in the Orioles' 64-53 win over Mayville on Tuesday. Rock recorded a double-double by pulling down 12 rebounds added four assists, four steals, and two blocks. Rock is averaging 18.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for coach Gary Kuehl and the Orioles, 4-14 overall and 2-6 in the Flyway. 

Lexi Swanson, 5-10, sr., Johnson Creek -- Swanson scored a career-high 35 points and added 16 rebounds in the Bluejauys' 64-30 win over Madison Country Day on Thursday. She is averaging 18.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.4 steals per contest for coach Jake Wedig and the Bluejays, 7-8 overall and 5-2 in the Trailways South. 

Pluemer leads Brookfield East past Arrowhead in triple OT

Brookfield East junior Annika Pluemer, a 5-9 guard, scored a game-high 26 points in the Spartans' triple-overtime thriller against D1 No. 3 Arrowhead in the top five showdown at Pius XI Catholic on Saturday. Brookfield East, ranked No. 4 in the latest D1 WSN Coaches Poll, overcame a 14-point deficit with 12 minutes remaining in regulation.

Pluemer went 10-for-15 from the line, including hitting a pair of free throws late in the second half which tied the game and ended up sending the game to its first overtime. She also collected seven rebounds, three assists, and five steals.

Pluemer is averaging 17.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game for coach Tyler Saxton and the Spartans, 15-1 overall and 10-0 in the Greater Metro. 

Arrowhead was led by senior Alaina Harper, a 6-3 Grand Canyon University signee, who finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds. She is averaging 16.9 points per game for coach Rick Witte and the Warhawks, 13-2 overall and 8-1 in the Classic Eight. 

Verona beats Sun Prairie on a buzzer-beater

Verona knocked Sun Prairie out of first place in the Big Eight when they won on a buzzer-beater on Saturday. 

With 2.3 seconds left game the game tied at 45, sophomore guard Reagan Briggs scored the game-winner on a sideline out-of-bounds play with 2.3 seconds left (video below). Junior guard Megan Murphy, who was being face-guarded, set the screen for Briggs and sophomore forward Maia Ellis made a great pass in the game-winning play. 

The Wildcats were led in scoring by junior forward Paige Lambe (6-2) who finished with 12 points. Briggs and junior guard Abbi Rupnow each netted 11 points for coach Angie Murphy and the Wildcats. 

Lamb leads the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game. Murphy (12.6 ppg) and Briggs (11.9 ppg) also average in double figures for the Wildcats, 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the Big Eight. 

Verona is now tied for second with Sun Prairie in the conference standings with Janesville Craig leading the way with a 9-1 league mark. 

Moments before the game-winner, Sun Prairie junior wing Marie Outlay (5-10) tied the game with a three-pointer with 2.5 seconds left. She finished the game with seven points.  

The Cardinals got 20 points and 14 rebounds from junior Avree Antony, a 5-10 guard, who holds a number of Division 1 offers. 

Outlay leads the team with 14.5 points and 3.2 steals per game.

Antony is second on the team in scoring with12.2 points per game and leads the team with 6.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists, while also chipping in 2.1 steals per game for coach John Olson and the Cardinals, 12-3 overall and 8-2 in the Big Eight, ranked No. 7 in the latest WSN Coaches Poll.
