RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week: February 14-20

Below are the RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of February 14 through 20. Voting is open until Thursday at 4 pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: Feb. 14-20

Seth Bunders, Wauzeka-Steuben boys basketball: Bunders transferred into Wauzeka-Steuben this season from Almond-Bancroft and has been a huge piece of the undefeated Hornet's season. Last week the Hornets won a pair of Ridge & Valley conference games, clinching the league title. Bunders began the week with 22 points, 13 steals, eight rebounds and eight assists in an 82-37 win over Weston. The 6'0" senior then had 25 points, seven assists and five rebounds in a 58-41 win over Seneca. In the conference clinching win, Bunders topped 1,000 career points.

Demarion Burch, Milwaukee Hamilton boys basketball: Burch has been a scoring machine this year for the Hamilton boys basketball team. The 6'3" junior is averaging nearly 30 points per game and helped the Wildcats to a pair of wins this past week. First in a 93-72 win over Obama SCTE, Burch scored 32 points. The extremely talented junior then had a career high 51 points in a 114-81 victory over Milwaukee Pulaski. Burch has scored 713 points on the season thus far.

Madison Fitzgibbon, Homestead girls basketball: Just a freshman, Fitzgibbon has already caught the eyes of Division 1 programs and for good reason. Last week in a 72-51 win over Grafton, the 5'6" guard had 29 points and four assists. Fitzgibbon followed that up with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 58-51 close win over Cedarburg. Homestead finished 21-3 on the regular season and won the North Shore title.

Demetria Prewitt, Madison La Follette girls basketball: La Follette girls won a trio of Big 8 Conference games this past week behind the strong play of Prewitt. She began the week with 20 points and ten rebounds in a 70-60 win over Big 8 co-champ Sun Prairie. The 5'9" guard then had 17 points and seven rebounds in a 75-41 win over Janesville Parker. Prewitt finished the week with 16 points and nine rebounds in a 59-35 win over Middleton. She added 11 steals and five blocks in the three wins. Prewitt broke the single season scoring record for La Follette girls as she's scored 367 points this season.

Rachel Simonson, Viroqua girls hockey: The Viroqua Blackhawks girls hockey team opened the WIAA playoffs with a dominating 11-0 opening round win over Beaver Dam. Simonson was all over the ice, accounting for eight of the eleven goals. The junior netted a hat trick herself, scoring three goals, and assisted on five others.
