Senior Girls Basketball Awards: Point Guard Finalists

Wisconsin Sports Network is proud to showcase the WSN High School Basketball Awards.

The finalists for the top senior point guard have been selected. The winner will be announced the week after the state tournament. 

Ja'cia Cunningham, 5-8, Milwaukee School of Languages -- Cunningham led the Hawks to a 20-6 record and a Division 3 regional final appearance. The NCAA Division I Chicago State signee averaged 21 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 4.9 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game for co-head coaches and parents Alina and John Cunningham. She finished her career with 1,111 points despite not being able to compete as a junior due to MPS canceling the winter sports season due to COVID-19. 

Leah Lemke, 5-8, Wrightstown -- Lemke led the Tigers to a 20-6 record and Division 3 regional final appearance, dropping a 56-61 contest versus North Eastern rival Freedom (state qualifier). The NCAA Division III UW-Oshkosh commit averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game for coach Mike Froehlke and the Tigers. Lemke, a D3 WBCA all-state pick last season, finished her career with 1,228 points, 481 rebounds, 405 assists, and 244 steals. 

Kamy Peppler, 5-6, Hortonville -- Peppler led the Polar Bears to a 24-2 record and a Divison 1 sectional semifinal appearance. The NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee signee averaged 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 3.4 steals per game for coach Celeste Ratka and the Polar Bears which were ranked No.1 in the WSN Coaches Poll the majority of the season. Peppler, a WBCA Division 2 all-state pick last season, finished her career with 1,201 points, 465 assists, and 303 steals. She helped lead Hortonville to Division 2 state tournament appearances as a freshman and sophomore. 

Aaliyah Smith, 5-7, Madison La Follette -- Smith made her season debut on January 8 and the Lancers rattled off 13 consecutive wins before falling to Arrowhead, 55-37, in a Division 1 regional final. The NCAA Division I prospect averaged 16.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game for coach Will Green and the 14-8 Lancers. 

Ashlyn Yow, 5-6, Waukesha West -- Yow helped lead the Wolverines to a 19-8 record and a Division 2 sectional semifinal before losing a 55-53 contest against Union Grove. The NCAA Division II Metropolitan State University of Denver signee averaged 7.8 points per game for coach Mark Busalacchi and the Wolverines.
