A five point halftime game turned into a 19 point victory for Kettle Moraine in the first Division 1 semi-final game.

The Lasers beat De Pere 66-47 Friday evening.

Kettle Moraine came out hot from the start, opening the game with a 13-0 run through the first six minutes. Junior Braelyn Torres scored seven of those points to fuel the Lasers.

De Pere battled back, going on a 14-3 run to pull within 17-14 at the 6:32 mark of the first half. A pair of threes from Butler commit Jordan Muelemans and four points from senior McKenna Ciesielczyk provided the spark the Redbirds needed.

The game fluctuated between an eight and six point lead until the final two minutes of the first half.

Western Illinois commit Lily Randgaard knocked down a jump shot with six seconds left to give Kettle Moraine a 28-23 lead at the break.

The Lasers came out of the break on an 8-3 run, going ahead 36-26 at the first media timeout of the second half.

From there, the Lasers pulled away. Over the next five minutes, Kettle Moraine jumped out to a 51-32 lead due in large part to shot making on the offensive end and challenge everything defensively.

De Pere pulled with 16 with 5:49 left in the game, but that was as close as the Redbirds would get the rest of the game.

Jordan Meulemans led all scorers with 20 points for De Pere and added three assists, three steals and two blocks. No one else scored in double figures for the Redbirds as McKenna Ciesielczyk had nine points.

Randgaard led Kettle Moraine with 17 points while adding six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Torress, Grace Grocholski and Becca Siedenburg joined Randgaard in double figures for the Lasers. Grocholski, an Arizona State recruit, added 12 rebounds.

Kettle Moraine forced 15 turnovers on the game that led to 14 points off. The Lasers also connected on 8 of 16 three point attempts on the game while De Pere made just 4 of 19.

Appleton East clawed tooth and nail as the managed to outlast Brookfield East in the second Division 1 State semi-final matchup.

The Patriots won 44-40 to advance to play Kettle Moraine Saturday night.

A low scoring game appeared to be in the cards for this one from the tip as the score stalled at 2-1 at the first media timeout with 14:40 to go in the first half.

From there, Emily LaChapell asserted her dominance. The Marquette commit scored Appleton East's next twelve points as the Patriots took a 14-6 lead into the under 11 minute media timeout.

For the next seven minutes, three baskets were made, all by Brookfield East.

A three pointer from Annika Pluemer and Maddy McGath each and a McGath layup pulled the Spartans even at 14 with 4:04 to go.

McGath took advantage of the defense playing off her as she knocked down a long two, to give the Spartans a 16-14 lead with 3:25 to play.

Appleton East then outscored Brookfield by five to close the half up 24-21.

LaChapell had 12 points and six rebounds at the intermission for the Patriots, while McGath's eight points and five rebounds led the Spartans.

Appleton East began the second half with a 9-3 run, highlighted by a five points from junior point guard Sammi Beyer.

An almost three minute stretch without any points scored for either team saw Appleton East pull ahead 35-28 with 10:23 to go.

The next five minutes saw Brookfield East close the gap after Appleton went up ten off of a LaChapell three point play.

Four free throws from Adrianna Alberts and a three point make from both Shae Kelley and Annika Pluemer had the Spartans with 41-40 with 4:14 left to play.

That proved to be it for Brookfield East's scoring as Appleton switched to a 2-3 zone that thwarted the Spartans scoring.

Free throws from LaChapell and senior Logan Lowry closed the game out for the Patriots.

Scoring came at a premium for both squads as each team experienced scoring droughts throughout the game.

Brookfield East shot 25.5% from the field and made 6 of 23 three point attempts on the game. Appleton East didn't fare too much better, shooting 32.6% from the field and just 2 of 15 from three. However, the Patriots converted 14 of 22 free throws on the game.

LaChapell led all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 15 shooting. She added eight rebounds. Beyer added nine points for the Patriots. Seniors Lily Hansford and Logan Lowry combined for seven blocks.

Annika Pluemer led Brookfield East with 10 points and six rebounds. Maddy McGath added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans that also got nine points from Shae Kelley.

Appleton East will meet Kettle Moraine Saturday night in the WIAA Division 1 State Championship.
