Randolph completes a perfect season, defeating Assumption in the D5 title game

The Randolph Rockets complete a perfect 31-0 season and capture the program's first state title. 

They defeated Assumption, last year's D5 state champion, 47-31 in the Division 5 state championship game. 

The Rockets ended the first half on a 6-0 run to lead 28-17 at halftime. They led for 27:37 of the game and their largest lead was 22 points with 5:51 left. 

Three players finished in double-figures for Randolph, led by junior Maddie DeVries (5-9) who finished with 11 points and added five rebounds. 

Other top scoring contributors for coach Chad Kaufman and the Rockets were junior Jorey Buwalda, a 6-0 forward, and senior Abby Katsma, a 5-6 guard, who each netted 10 points. Buwalda also tallied seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. 

Senior Presley Buwalda, a 5-8 guard, led the way on defense with eight steals and added six points, four rebounds, and three assists. 

Randolph shot 18-for-42 from the floor, 4-for-7 on 3-pointers, and made four of seven free throws in the victory. 

Assumption was led by senior Ainara Sainz de Rozas, a 5-5 guard, who finished with 11 points and added three assists. Freshman Anna Schooley, a 5-11 forward, added seven points and two steals for coach Ryan Klein and the Royals, which finish their year with a 22-4 record. 

The Royals turned the ball over 20 times in the loss.
