Kettle Moraine captures the program's second state title, rolling past Appleton East in the Division 1 title game

The Kettle Moraine Lasers captured the program's first state title since 1999. 

The Lasers rolled to a 69-53 victory over Appleton East in the Division 1 state championship game on Saturday at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

The Lasers, which never trailed in the game, built a 25-15 with 6:17 left in the first half and led 31-26 at halftime. 

Kettle Moraine, ranked No. 2  in the final WSN Coaches Poll, led by as many as 19 points in the second half before earning the 16-point victory over Appleton East, which was No 3 in the final coaches poll. 

The Lasers were led by junior wing/forward Grace Grocholski, a 5-10 Arizona State commit, who finished with 34 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. She shot 9-for-14 from the floor, 1-for-4 from three, and went 15-for-16 from the free throw line, tying the Division 1 state tournament record for free throws made in a game which was set by Superior's Jessica Lindstrom in 2014. 

Other top contributors for the Lasers were senior guard Lily Randgaard, a 5-10 Western Illinois signee, and junior guard Braelyn Torres (5-8) who finished with 10 and eight points, respectively. Torres added four assists and five steals. 

Coach Todd Hansen wins his first gold ball in his fourth season as the Lasers head coach. He now has a 329-103 record in 18 years as a head coach, spending 14 years at his alma mater Pewaukee which was the Division 2 state runner-up this season. 

Kettle Moraine finishes the year with a 27-3 record, advancing to the state tournament for the seventh time in program history. 

Appleton East was led by senior guard Emily LaChapell, a 5-11 Marquette signee, who tallied 19 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. 

The Patriots also got 17 points from senior forward Logan Lowry, a 6-0 UW-Whitewater commit, who scored a season-best 17 points and added eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks for coach Joe LaChapell and the Patriots. 

Appleton East ends the year with a 25-5 record, reaching the state tournament for the third time in program history.
