WBCA announces Division 2 Girls Basketball All-State Team

Three players are repeat selections on the Division 2 WBCA all-state team; Gracie Grzesk and Sarah Hardwick of Notre Dame, and Mahra Wieman of Reedsburg. 

Grzesk helped lead Notre Dame to its second consecutive Division 2 state championship. The 5-11 wing/forward averaged a team-best 15.3 points per game to go along with 4.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals per game for coach Sara Rohde and the Tritons which ended the year with a 29-1 record. Grzesk, who holds a number of Division I offers, was named first-team all-FRCC. She will enter her junior year with 806 career points and has helped Notre Dame to a 57-2 record in her first two seasons. 

Hardwick, an NCAA Division III UW-Oshkosh commit, helped Notre Dame repeat as Division 2 state champions. The 6-0 forward tallied 11.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.8 steals per contest for coach Rohde and the Tritons which defeated Pewaukee in the state championship game to end the year 29-1 overall. Hardwick, a first-team all-FRCC performer, finished her career with 908 points. 

Wieman, an NCAA Division III UW-Oshkosh commit, led Reedsburg to its second straight trip to the state tournament and a 28-1 overall record. The 5-10 guard averaged 23 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.8 steals per game for coach Mark Simon and the Beavers which lost to state runner-up Pewaukee in a state semifinal. Wieman, a first-team all-Badger East selection, finishes her career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,783 points. She led the Beavers to a D2 state runner-up finish as a junior. 

Sydney Cherney helped Reedsburg to a 28-1 record and the program’s second consecutive state tournament appearance. The Beavers’ lone loss was against Pewaukee in a state semifinal. Cherney, a 5-9 guard, averaged 18.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.5 steals per game for coach Simon and the Beavers, earning first-team all-Badger East. She will enter her junior year with 849 career points. 

Trista Fayta played a key role in Notre Dame repeating as Division 2 state champions. The 5-8 point guard tallied 12 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 3.6 steals per contest for coach Rohde and the Tritons which finished the year with a 29-1 record. Fayta, who holds a couple of NCAA Division I offers, was named first-team all-FRCC. 

Teagan Mallegni, who holds a long list of Division I offers, led McFarland to an 18-8 record and a regional final appearance. The 6-0 wing/guard was second in the state in scoring with 29 points per game and scored the second-most points in a single game in state history when she dropped 62 points in a win over East Troy. Mallegni also tallied 8.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.4 blocks per game for coach and mother Sara Mallegni and the Spartans. Teagan will enter her junior year with 995 career points. 

Mya Moore, an NCAA Division I Seattle University signee, led Pius XI Catholic to a sectional final appearance before falling to state runner-up Pewaukee to finish the year with a 25-3 record. The 6-1 forward tallied 14.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game for coach Scott Herrick and the Lady Popes. Moore ends her high school career with 1,224 career points. 

Sarah Newcomer, an NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University signee, led Pewaukee to a 26-4 overall record and a state runner-up finish in the program’s second appearance at state. She also helped them reach state in 2020 but the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 the day before they were scheduled to play. Newcomer, a 5-10 guard, averaged 15.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per game for coach Jim Reuter and the Pirates. She also shot 75-for-181 from behind the arc. Newcomer scored 1,053 points in her career. 

Meghan Schultz, an NCAA Division I UW-Green Bay commit, led New Berlin West to a 15-9 record and a regional final appearance, falling to state runner-up Pewaukee. The 6-3 forward averaged 18.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per contest for coach Collin Thompson and the Vikings. Schultz was an honorable mention all-state pick last season and will enter her senior year with 1,105 career points. 

Amy Terrian helped lead Pewaukee to a Division 2 state runner-up finish. The 5-8 guard averaged a team-best 16.8 points per game, along with contributing 3.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.3 steals per game for coach Reuter and the Pirates which finished the campaign with a 26-4 record. Terrian, an NCAA Division I prospect, shot 79-for-178 from 3-point land and tallied 448 total points in her freshman season. 

Gabby Wilke led Beaver Dam to a sectional final appearance, falling to state champion Notre Dame, to finish the year with a 25-3 record. The 6-2 wing/forward averaged 16.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for coach Tim Chase and the Golden Beavers. Wilke, who holds NCAA Division I offers, was named first-team All-Badger West.
