Appleton East's Emily LaChapell has been selected as the top senior wing as part of the WSN Basketball Awards

LaChapell is an athletic playmaker with the ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. She is a three-level scorer who has great court vision to find the open player while also playing at a high level on defense. Emily also has a strong basketball IQ which is a key piece to how she impacts the game on both ends of the floor.

She led Appleton East to a Division 1 state runner-up finish and a 25-5 overall record, which was the program's first trip to state since 1998.

LaChapell, a 5-11 wing/guard, is a two-time WBCA all-state selection. She also earned honorable mention recognition as a sophomore.

The Marquette University signee averaged 20.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game for coach and father Joe LaChapell and the Patriots.

Emily also connected on 39 three-pointers. She shot 54.9 percent from the field, 80.6 percent from the free throw line, and 37.9 from 3-point land.

She scored at least 30 points in four games this season, including a school-record 50 points in the Patriots' victory against Appleton West on January 21.

LaChapell was voted co-player of the year of the Fox Valley Association as a senior.

She was named first-team all-FVA by unanimous vote all four years. Emily was also a four-time selection to the league's all-defensive team.

LaChapell led the Patriots to an 83-19 record in her career and finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1.885 points. She also collected 735 rebounds and 505 assists in her career.

The finalists for the award were LaChapell, Nakiyah Hurst of Milwaukee Academy of Science, Grace Lomen of Catholic Memorial, Sarah Newcomer of Pewaukee, and Mahra Wieman of Reedsburg.

Past winners of the award include Maty Wilke of Beaver Dam (2021), Leilani Kapinus of Madison Memorial (2020), McKenna Warnock of Monona Grove (2019), Hailey Oskey of Seymour (2018), Estella Moschkau of Edgewood (2017), Abby Gerrits of Pewaukee (2016), Arike Ogunbowale (2015), Maya Jonas of Whitefish Bay (2014), Samantha Terry of Baraboo (2013), and Brittney Fair of Nicolet (2012).
