Waupun's Abbie Aalsma has been selected as the top senior shooter as part of the WSN Senior Basketball Awards

Aalsma is a sharp-shooter with a quick release to go along with her ability to put the ball on the floor to create her own shot or find the open player. She also makes an impact on the defensive end of the floor.

She received Division 3 WBCA first-team all-state honors the last two years and earned honorable mention recognition as a freshman and sophomore.

Aalsma led Waupun to the program's first-ever state championship and a 27-3 overall record. The Warriors defeated Freedom, 63-42, in the Division 3 title game.

She went 105-for-225 on three-pointers during the 2021-22 season. Abbie had 14 games with at least four three-pointers made, including tying a career-high with seven in a 71-44 win over Kettle Moraine Lutheran in December.

The 5-9 guard averaged 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.2 steals per game for coach and father Tim Aalsma and the Warriors.

Aalsma scored a career-best 33 points in Waupun's 50-47 victory against ECC foe Kewaskum in a sectional semifinal. She also scored her 2,000th career point in that contest.

She shot 52.2 percent from the field, 85.1 percent from the free throw line, and 46.7 on three-pointers for the Division 3 state champions.

Aalsma was named East Central Player of the Year all four years, sharing the honor with teammate Kayl Petersen this season.

The NCAA Division I Illinois State signee finished her career with 2,055 points and 348 three-pointers made in her career. Abbie led Waupun to an 84-17 record in her career.

Aalmsa is the 30th girls' basketball player to score over 2,000 career points and is 23rd on the state's all-time scoring list.

The finalists for the award were Aaslma, Lily Hansford of Appleton East, Kate Huml of Janesville Craig, Lily Krahn of Prairie du Chien, Mallory Lindsey of Mineral Point, Jordan Meulemans of De Pere, and Jacy Weisbrod of Aquinas.
