RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week: March 14-20

Below are the RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees for the week of March 14-20. Voting is open until Thursday at 4 pm, so be sure to vote for who you feel is most deserving and spread the word. Users may vote once per day.

RallyAroundUs Athlete of the Week Nominees: Mar. 14-20

Sam Grieger, Randolph boys basketball: Grieger was nothing short of spectacular as Randolph added to their state record and captured an eleventh state title. In the Division 5 state semifinals Grieger set a new state record by scoring 41 points, surpassing Sam Dekker's record of 40 points from 2012. Grieger shot 16 of 23 from the field and added seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and three blocks in the 61-28 win over Gibraltar. The smooth lefty then had 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and three blocks in the 65-51 win over Randolph in the state title. The boys team joins the girls in capturing gold this season, the eighth time it's been done in state history.

Luke Haertle, Lake Country Lutheran boys basketball: Haertle was determined to get a gold ball this for Lake Country Lutheran this year after coming up short last season. In a 70-43 semifinal victory over Saint Thomas More, the future Wisconsin walk-on was nearly unstoppable, scoring 35 points and adding 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Haertle was then hounded in the championship bout with West Salem, but still ended just one assist shy of a triple double. The 6'4" wing finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in the 67-56 win. After finishing as runner-ups in 2021, Haertle led Lake Country to its first WIAA State Championship in program history.

Milan Momcilovic, Pewaukee boys basketball: Momcilovic and the rest of the Pewaukee boys basketball team had on thing on their minds this weekend, repeat. The Pirates did just that behind the 6'8" junior. In a 60-49 win over Ashwaubenon in the Division 2 semis, Momcilovic had 18 points, going seven of eight from the field, and added seven rebounds. Pewaukee then snapped La Crosse Central's 25-game winning streak in the Division 2 state title game. Momcilovic, a Division 1 prospect, tied the team high with 19 points and added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the 67-48 win. Momvilovic was part of a talented, balanced Pewaukee team that captured its second consecutive WIAA Division 2 State Championship.

JJ Paider, Neenah boys basketball: Paider came out to a state wide audience this past weekend, showcasing his skillset throughout. In the Rocket's 60-52 semifinal win over Racine Case, the 6'7" forward had 17 points on eight of thirteen shooting and added 14 rebounds and five assists. Paider, an unsigned player in the class of 2022, then had 14 points on six of nine shooting and added another 18 rebounds in the 64-52 victory over Brookfield Central in the Division 1 State title game. His 32 combined rebounds set a WIAA Division 1 State Tournament record. 

Luke Pautz, Roncalli boys basketball: Pautz led the Roncalli boys to a pair of wins and a WIAA Division 4 State title this past weekend. In the semifinal matchup with Marshall, Roncalli was down before pulling out a 50-43 win behind 20 points, 14 rebounds and four assists from Pautz. The savvy senior then recorded another double-double in the 55-45 upset win over Milwaukee Academy of Science. Pautz had 17 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and four blocks. He added some stifling defense, as did the rest of the team, throughout both contests, especially in the championship. Pautz and the Jets held MAOS almost 40 points under their average on the season.
